:raisinghand: One here.

By McGowan's own estimate WA will reach 80% double vaccination around December 10th. By the time the Perth test was due to start (Jan 14th) you'd have to think we'd be close to 90% or even beyond it. At that point there should be next to no restrictions. 14 day quarantines in that scenario would be an absurd overkill.

Power hungry prick just wants to swing his dick. 2 years in a row without a Perth test. GAGF McGowan.
Yep pretty much my point. I agree that there should be consistency in who restrictions apply to, its just it seems to me that the restrictions are over the top considering the likely vaccination rates. Wont impact me in any way but if I lived in Perth I reckon I would have changed my mind on McGowan by now. It does now seem to be more of a show of power more than a considered risk assessment.

Yep - the test is only few weeks before the opening date anyway. How is that going to make a material difference?
I reckon Marky Mark is going to use the Unicron variant as an excuse to implement an updated plan for the plan to re-open. Late January/early February off the cards I reckon. Could be mid-March now if he does stall the process.

Quite possible. Someone from The Worst pointed to the Govts budget forecast Iron Ore revenue and currently we are looking at taking a monstrous hit from that alone. When borders open all our cash flows out of the state as people travel, holiday, live it up. The longer we stay trapped in WA the longer our spending bandaids the Iron Ore deficit.

At this point I don't know whether it's tin foil hat stuff or not. It certainly carries some merit.

I haven't been a WACA member for a few years now but wouldn't be too impressed with missing out on a test match 2 years running considering that's, more likely, the only reason one would be a member.
And it's not like membership at WCE where they offer a credit for games missed due to covid.....

When was the last time the Windies had a really good test batsman? Chanderpaul? The best one of this generation is probably Brathwaite and he averages 32. Their side is pretty sad at least in the test format.

Gayle averaged 42, but yeah it's pretty bleak reading

Am I bad person for not giving a s**t about what Vaughan is going through right now - have always found him to be the typical soap-dodging pom, campaigner of a bloke and couldn't care less about him.

Its not going to be a defecit. The surplus might be smaller, but last budget's one was ridiculously large.

I'm talking deficit to the predicted budget on account of iron ore, not iron ore tipping a surplus into deficit. Basically, iron ore is leaving a big hole that we need to fill.

Aren't the miners still screaming out for more workers though? Even before the mandates.

I've given up trying to predict the economy/jobs/house prices based on COVID-19 effects and closing/opening borders. It's too damn hard.

It's a pity about the Ashes test though. I'm relatively unaffected by closed borders so am happy for WA to play it safe and see what we can learn from re-openings around the country/world. It's actually a pretty privileged position to be in.

A biased view obviously with me having no dying relatives interstate, no business travel required etc. Which is why, if one accepts the borders are closed, I agree with those (unlike me) who are affected opposing cricketers et al getting special treatment.

The government set an outrageously low forecast on the Iron Ore price last year which gave the appearance of delivering a strong surplus, they have done the same thing again, though it won’t be as strong as this year with declining prices. They are using their low forecast to artificially create a “slush fund”.

You never know both bell and carberry looked like crap selections then both contributed to us winning a title

The only test scheduled here last season was against mighty Afghanistan and that whole tour was called off. India didn’t want to play here and no test was scheduled.
With a a bit of luck Aus will easily retain the Ashes and the 5th test will be dead And it will probably be 40c + so few would go.
Such is life …

India is booked to tour here next year? Jesus that 3 series in 4 years for them.

From the likes of Lara, Chanderpaul, Viv, Sobers, Greenidge, Haynes, Walcott, Weekes, Worrell, Lloyd, and Kanhai, to where they are now is a huge fall. If cricket never became so commercialised, I genuinely think we'd have a much more competitive Windies side. The WICB never paid their players very well, and with things like the IPL exploding onto the scene, I can't blame the Windies players for chasing the money when playing for the Test team paid so poorly. What cricket in that area of the world really needs right now is investment. But all of that gets eaten up by the subcontinent, particularly India.

Problem is most of the non-potatoes don't want to play BBL due to the location/timing/compensation. Mills is an easy get because he's basically a tour reserve. Presumably the same with Carse(?) and Evans.

The other side of the coin is WA bowlers keep on breaking, and Pie's gonna be tied up with the Test squad.

Anyone know if Munro was re-signed?

Never forget the impact of Carb's helmet.
