Yes, it changed in 2017. The "Obstructing the field" dismissal is broader with "Handled the ball" integrated into it.

Very strange. The article suggests an automatic reaction like when you're in the nets and gathering the ball to chuck back to the bowler. Despite an element of plausibility, I don't quite buy that explanation.

Edit: maybe a good explanation actually, having rewatched a few more times.

The workload management of fast/young bowlers is a vexxed issue. Old school thinking says the more you play, the more hardened you become, and there's truth to that. But as a man of science, there's also benefit in following sports science approaches.

I think there's a happy medium somewhere where it balances out a little bit better than it has done for Greeny (and now Lance Morris) in recent years.

When sports scientists first started getting into cricket we never had more injuries in our fast bowling ranks because they didn't bowl enough. It does seem to be better balanced now and they realised you need to be match hardened but I still think they wrap them into cotton wool a bit too much.

If you need your quick bowler to push through 40 (maybe even 50) overs through the course of 2 days but he's never even gone beyond 20 in one day due to workload management, what do they think is going to happen? Unfortunately in the heat of battle, you can't let them just put their feet up... Your team needs wickets and these guys are your main men to get them.

Although the above being said, we have seen captains/bowlers deciding it's not worth the effort a few times in recent years on ridiculously flat pitches i.e. James Pattinson bowling off spin in one shield game when the opposition was 4/600 or something stupid on a completely lifeless pitch. That would never have happened 30 years ago in professional cricket but in some occasional circumstances, it's probably the better option rather than bowling your quick's into the ground.

Marsh is the better bat but if they're worried about Lyon coming off an injury and the three quicks coming off a gruelling WC, maybe they prefer Green for his bowling?

Marsh is definitely not the better bat. Sure, he's better at #6, with the task of moving the game along. But Cam Green will average 45+ in test cricket when they move him up the order and let him build an innings.

I think Green's bowling is a bit overrated. Needs bouncy pitches, which he only sometimes gets, or a newer ball, which Cummins never gives him. Marsh does a very serviceable job when he has two functioning hammies.

Unfortunately you almost need two functioning Marshes to come up with two functioning hamstrings

Stars failures were much funnier back when they had a team of superstars, dominated home and away games and choked in finals. These days it's just sad.

I'm more won over by the Heat's bowling.

Neser is a solid player and may take some early wickets nipping it around.

Johnson is capable of quick wickets on any given day.

Bartlett was easily the pick of the bunch tonight and is a real player to watch for higher honours IMO.

Kuhn and Swepson are solid spinners.

Even Walter looked handy as an awkward tall option.
