Probably because of the contempt with which they treat anyone outside their bubble (particularly if they dare to criticise them for anything). They have an us versus them mentality and 'them' includes the Australian public.
Also Ronald MacDonald is the puppet coach with his strings being pulled by the NSW player cartel

Think the Test championship win papers over a fair few cracks.

India have the wood over us here.

Nearly lost the away Ashes after being 2-0 up.

Pakistan could well have won 1 test minimum had they held their catches.

Now this.

Lots to work on with the red ball side.

Big issue is that they are quite old. Green and Marnus are the only ones under 30 and Marnus turns 30 mid this year. Hard to replace anybody in the lineup given how successful they’ve been, but there’s going to be a lot of turnover within the next few years a lot of blooding of players who are very inexperienced at the international level.

Poor selection

Caved into Smiths opening fantasy when there was an in form opener (Bancroft) deserving of an opportunity

Then bring in Green who was rightfully dropped for a lack of form and had done nothing to earn a recall, partly due to a complete lack of cricket

Bancroft should’ve replaced Warner as the only change but now they’ve painted themselves into a corner
This is a significant problem if you ask me. Green has been "managed" to within an inch of his cricket playing life.

Just let him go free-range, and what will be will be. Either he'll perform, or he won't. That is all.

This is what pisses me off. in 2 yrs, there will probably be 3 or 4 of the current side still playing. This summer was the perfect ****ing opportunity to audition new blood and give them an extended run.

One of the 3 quicks should have been rotated out for each game. We've had no issue doing it in the past.

Giving ****wit Davey his fairytale ending will set us back 2 years. Smith and Khawaja will both retire in the next 12-18 mths and what then?

Bancroft is bog average, no issue with his non selection.

Smith has failed twice on tough batting decks with the new ball, he deserves an extended run.
Lol at using "facing the new ball" as an excuse for an opener failing.

Isn't that kinda their job?

A lot of people, myself included, thought it should've been either Bancroft or Renshaw for Warner.

But as we know, the players are picking the team and the batting line-up these days.

Khawaja had 8 single digit scores last year despite being the test player of the year, openers are gonna fail sometimes, it's a tough job

I agree with that. You have to give Smith a few goes at it before making any conclusions. The question will become, how many goes?

Hopefully he just puts a score on the board and we won't need to entertain that question.

I still have doubts about his technique combined with his age, facing the new rock in tough conditions. But I'd be silly to bet against him succeeding.

Lol at anybody writing off Smith as an opener after 2 failures.
I am not sure many are writing him off but it was always a gamble and what if it doesn’t work? Does he move back to 4? What happens to Green if so, even more so if Green performs?

I am not sold on Bancroft or any of the other opening options mind you but things look very messy if this fails, especially as Green (whilst very talented) has done nothing to be back in the team (largely due to not playing) and was dropped for a reason.

We look vulnerable with Smith opening and an out of form Green in the side. But the real issue is the lack of test batters coming through and no obvious replacement to Warner that doesn’t come with a sh*t load of question marks.

Someone always seems to stick their hand up for us, but there will be a time where they don't.

Virtually nothing from Marsh, Smith, Labs and Green so far this series.

That was going straight to first slip. Poor slip structure?

That but also poor judgment from Smith

Made a mess of it

Four dropped catches - two each from the usually reliable Smith and Green. Admittedly one of Green’s was very difficult and most players wouldn’t have even got a hand to it
