Having discussion with someone about how Sangakkara could have equalled the Don for the most 200’s had Rudi hadn’t rob him on 192. Looked more into his innings list and he was stuck on 199* after he ran out of partners. Sounds worse than being stuck on 99
Nah surely 99 is worse. I just wikispiralled and discovered that Jayasuriya was Deputy Minister of Postal Services and MP in the SL government at one point

I think one of their players was also a judge on SL's Got Talent.

Edit: I have a feeling I know that from someone posting a video of it in the RDT. The karate fail one, for those who remember.

Then you realise Sanga played almost 3 times as many tests as the Don to get that close :shoutyoldman:

Jeez, you'd want to have a very very good reason to not kneel given the history of his country etc.
I don't know if he's one of them, but a cohort of the Saffa's won't kneel due to their belief that they should only kneel before god or their wife.

When I read about that, I thought why would you kneel before your wife?, before having dirty thoughts a millisecond later.

Yeah he probably should have thought that one through. He is 29 and if it does end his international career, it might also end his chances playing in England, Australia and New Zealand too. The CPL probably won’t welcome him either. He’s have to rely on IPL basically as an income

What did he do in the v Australia match where they had options to express solidarity?

I'm probably not getting on my knee irrespective of the cause either. I can be against racism without doing something I would consider demeaning.

What would be demeaning about taking a knee, especially in the context of it being a show of respect and solidarity with others? Genuinely curious to understand this

I believe that's kneeling behind your wife

He could make more from the IPL than the other four combined.

PSL might have him too.

I wouldn't kneel, bow, curtsy or kiss someone's ring. They are subservient postures in my opinion.

I can show plenty of respect and solidarity without doing something I find distasteful

The irony of different opinions and beliefs seeming to baffle those who preach inclusion and diversity the most is a truly modern conundrum.

How did you propose then?

That’s what I mean about context though - kissing someone’s ring is clearly an act of deferral and subservience to that person. Are you suggesting taking a knee - in a collective, unified gesture - implies subservience to black players?

Geez I used to really like QDK too. I am sure it’s a complex political situation over there, but he used to captain the side and it’s not like it’s some extraordinary act - basically every sporting side in the world isn’t doing it before games these days.

He is nowhere near as good as he was when he was younger anyway, so I doubt it affects the side too much.
