As well as chucking there's this:

One of the more telling statistics in the Warne-Murali debate is the number of matches the pair played against the minnows.

Warne only played Zimbabwe and Bangladesh a total of three times, claiming 17 wickets at 25.7.

Murali played each on a combined 25 occasions during which he captured 176 scalps at 15.1.

If you remove the matches against those two nations from the pair’s career record it looks like this – Warne 691 wickets at 25.4, Murali 624 wickets at 24.9.

Let's be honest, our covid rules have been in place for quite a while. There was always a serious chance that having us host after Sydney or Melbourne would be problematic.

For the WA government and Cricket Australia to not have worked out a plan that at least had a semblance of working is pretty amateur from both parties.
The only way it was ever going to work was if we hosted the first test, and there's no way in hell CA would ever take that away from the Gabba.

Sam Whitman is one of this generations “what if” players. Pre injury was a much better keeper and Batsmen that Carey is. Was also tearing shield up as 20-23 year old too.

WA could probably field two sides with the amount of our players playing for someone else.

Guthrie and Whiteman in this game alone.

Can't blame CA really, why should they put up with McGowan's restrictions when every other state is open.

McGowan is the easy target, but the WACA management also shoulder a lot of blame on this.

WA has missed out on 3 tests now in the last few years.

Reality is The WACA is the most expendable of the big 5 venues, and it was happening long before today.

Except the Test (and any against India) would have been at Optus, one of the best stadiums in the country.

Yet they still couldn't squeeze it in the top 4 last season. Instead we were going to get Afghanistan.

CA just hates Perth

But tests aren't played at the WACA.......they are played at the second best big venue.

See above, Optus still couldn't crack the top 4 for a test last summer.

Cricket WA management is shizen and CA doesn't like Perth so it's not a good combo.

At the risk of upsetting the cricket purists - why do we persist with the WACA?

Just knock it down, sell of the land to developers, and use drop in pitches at Optus which would be full house for Ashes and India matches. Win-win-win.

Aren't they making it into a boutique stadium that will host WAFL in winter too?

You need a venue for WBBL, Sheffield Shield etc, can't play all that at Optus.

In Perth stadium history it narrowly missed out on Ashes game as it opened a couple months after the test. Then it goes on to miss two more marquee games. That first India game I think got a decent crows but it was never gonna be close to sell out with Smith and Warner not playing that series. Reckon this year would have come close to 50k and last year just under

Has there ever been a shield game at new stadium? We might be the only state that doesn't use our main stadium for shield matches. SA, Vic and NSW will use the oval, MCG and SCG at some point of the season

Best analogy is the WA shield team is like Geelong

Play the smaller games at the local shitty stadium but all the big ones play at the big venue in the state.

Maybe they don't want to over use the turf just yet

Jimmy Anderson apparently out with a calf (old man’s injury). Big blow for the Poms if true.

They played one or two just after it opened

It is however the Poms do have some depth to cover him. This Ollie Robinson looks like he can cause some mischief.

No india never play both gabba and WA . It doesn't suit them and they have the say .

Just like last year the gabba test was last due to India requesting its not to be first .

Imagine if we requested not to play at the Mumbai dust bowl !
