What a gutless piece of sh**

The irony is that Ian Chappell wasn’t that great a cricketer himself.
Aggressive, loud mouthed, foul mouthed lout.
He was anti establishment ( as he still is today ) has had a life long hatred for CA.

His Captaincy credentials are inflated by the fact that he captained in an era where by he was surrounded by some of the best players ( particularly bowlers ) a donkey could have led them.

Truth of the matter is that he only still commenting and on the payroll because of the life long deal he did with Packer after he defected to World Series Cricket.

I mean FFS for the first 20 years of his commentary all we ever heard about was how good the players in his era were.
He constantly reminisced about how many cigarettes 🚬 his mate Dougy will smoke, how many cans Marsh could drink 🍺, and how much foul mouthed sledging Thommo did.

Unlike Tony who also got a job for life from Packer, Chappell was and still is a boring shithouse commentator.
Tony and Bill's byplay and commentary was something that lifted TV ratings.
Conversely Ian Chappell’ s boring monotone voice puts viewers off.

Just saying.

If I recall the first time I heard this rant from him correctly, he thinks being named captain is evidence you're a great cricketer.

Some might say a donkey did lead them.

Ian Chappell: 14 hundreds, average 42.42
Justin Langer: 23 hundreds, average 45.27
Only 27 batters in the history of test cricket have more hundreds than JL.
Chappell hasn't had a new thought in 30 years..

And his explanation for that is that Langer played at "the easiest time" to be an international opener.

Martyn is one of if not the most talented WA batsmen i've ever seen. But comparing Martyn to Langer is like comparing Mark to Steve Waugh. If Mark Waugh had half the grit of his brother he would have eclipsed him in all formats. A bit like Martyn to Langer.

There's also a reason why openers have lower averages than guys who bat at 3,4,5. It's because they almost never get a not out and they face the new ball every game against the best 2 bowlers the opposition has at the start of every innings.

Mike Hussey was a bloody good opener but he wouldn't have performed for Australia in the manner her did batting down the order if he had to open his whole career.

One half of Australia's best opening partnership, second all time

Trav Head bowling the 17th over. Fair to say the selectors have f’ed up massively here.

Pretty obvious it wasn't going to be a seamers pitch when it was shiny white with no grass on it 3 days ago.

I do wonder if Langer is watching on from home and smiling and Pakistan pile up the runs in the first innings.
Langer: inject this into my veins

Cummins will run out of friends fast if he shafts Langer and then fails. Aussies just can't back a loser. It's in the DNA
