Someone just pointed out that on all days, today is Daryl Cullinan's birthday
It's been some day trying to process the news of Shane Warne's death but I got a chuckle out of this

Wow take a look at Hobbs and Sutcliffe. Ave 88 across 38 innings in a very difficult era to bat. Admittedly probably only played in England and Australia but that is some record.

Of the old era Hobbs is widely regarded as the second or third best batsman ever. Behind Bradman but either on par or just behind Everton Weekes.

Pretty disappointing with everyone in Pakistan excited for Australia touring there for the first time in decades, then the first test they roll out an absolute road of a wicket that results in a run-fest with very few wickets taken.

4 wickets for 700+ runs, Langer won't be sad he's missed the blame for this abject effort. Malcolm Conn and co would have been into him for sure if he was still the coach.

Mankads now officially within the spirit of cricket -

The Law has been moved from the “Unfair Play” section to Law 38 (Run out), but the wording remains the same.

This intentionally destigmatises non-striker run-outs, which have become a source of controversy among the cricket community.

Also, this change -

Law 18.11 has also been changed so that when a batter is out caught, the new batter shall come in at the striker’s end, irrespective of whether the players crossed.

And this too -

Meanwhile, one of the cricket’s fabled acts looks destined to become a thing of the past, with the updated Laws banning the application of saliva onto the match ball.
Using saliva on the ball was understandably banned after the Covid-19 pandemic, but research conducted by the MCC found this had little to no impact on the amount of swing bowlers were getting — using sweat to polish the ball was equally effective.
