If you're gonna have separate red ball and white ball captains, there's nothing to stop you having 3 different captains.
Agreed, but after this series, we don't play another ODI until after the T20 World Cup, so that's the more pressing concern in terms of captaincy.

Plus if someone replaces Finch for the T20 Captaincy and does well, would be hard to go past them for the ODI gig.

I get that this hasn’t been an easy track to bat on, but some of the batting in this series has been dreadful.

Why is there like 15 T20 World Cups a year?

Seems like overkill

I believe they're meant to be every two years (someone can fact check me on that). But 2020 was pushed back to 2021, so we get them in consecutive years.

Every 2 years is a joke

Pretty wild to see a bowler with figures of 5-4-1-2 in an ODI.
Sean Abbott has been so unlucky not to play more for Australia. Always been a wicket taker, and in the last few years he's added control, as well as becoming a serious contributor with the bat.

Might be an unpopular opinion

Low scoring Test matches = Great
Low scoring ODIs/T20s = Not Great

When you think of great ODI's and great ODI moments, how often do you think of low scoring matches and bowling efforts ?
Not for me.
The low scores are much better IMO.

Rather see 2 sides battling it out chasing 200 than 300 plus scores everyday of the week.

Best one day match ever was a low scoring affair.
1977 Gillette cup semi final. WA vs. Qld.
Dymock and Thommo skittled WA from 1-50 to 77 all out. And that was with Marsh (R), Hughes, Sergeant and others in the lineup.
Qld had the two best batsmen in the world in their lineup but Lillee, Clark and Malone (I think it was) did em for 62.

I'll take the low scoring tense affairs any day.

How would that compare with the 434 game

Wickets are more exciting than watching the ball get tonked constantly (sex life). Boundaries are fun when it's one bat going off and every one else is still playing normal cricket.

The 434 was unlike anything seen before at the time. South Africa would've been ridiculously long odds at the innings break given it was the newly set world record ODI score.

To then go out and chase it down, of course it's one of the all time classic ODIs, given the context.

If it happened nowadays it'd be something but we've all been exposed to slogging and 350/400 plus on the regular now.

A great ODI bowling spell would not compare with this innings from AB

test matches should favour the bowlers
limited overs should favour the batsmen
Test matches should have periods where both bowlers and batters have the better of the conditions.

T20 can be a dead pitch slogfest and 50 over games should be slanted to the bowlers.

Formats sorted.
