Go hammer and tongs and move Philippe and Inglis up to 3 and 4 respectively. Tell them to treat it like a BBL game

Bancroft has scored 261 runs so far this shield season from 7 innings

217 of them came in 2 innings and another innings of 34 thrown in there as well

Bancroft has had some really poor umpiring decisions this season thus far, at least a couple of times he's been fired when he wasn't out.

Interesting decision tomorrow how to play it down 40 with 10 in the shed

Option A. Go hammer and tongs first session. Try put on 200. Declare at lunch up 150, offer S.A a chance to set a two session target and win the game if they want. If they decline to set well you still have 5 sessions to bowl them out (4.5 if they make say 250 and you need 100 off 15 overs)

Option B. Accept SA can't win, bat less hard for 2.5 sessions to lead by 250 and then try and bowl them out with both teams knowing SA can't win the game.

I'd go A but I'm historically a "declare early" guy to maximise overs at a team, even if you are bowling 5th and 6th stringers like a Cartwright or Short (I'm aware Short isn't playing)

No, grind them into the ground. The aim should be to bat for as long as possible tomorrow and build a strong lead before declaring some time in the final session (possibly even at tea depending on any potential lead). WA should be aiming to have at least 10-15 overs at the Redbacks before stumps and force them to bat for three and a half to potentially the best part of four sessions to save the game.

It'll be a case of Bancroft and Whiteman starting again tomorrow and getting themselves in during the first session before assessing things a bit later in the day in terms of tactics.

I mean that happens S.A deadbat 120 overs for 3/150 on a pretty placid pitch and we feel like we should have given them a bit more of a sniff, more overs at them.

I can't see WA getting bowled out for anything less than 140 more absolute worst case going super hard. And if that happens and we lead by 100 so be it.

Give me 150 overs to roll them not 105 or 110

If SA haven't taken several wickets in the first session tomorrow they'll already know they aren't going to win.

Well option A isn't happening.
