Not excusing things but every team doctors the ball. CA's handling, particularly of Smith and Warner was abominable.
Faf, the opposing captain in that game, had twice been done for ball tampering and hadn't been suspended for even 1 game.

It was CA covering CA's arse after they had for well over a decade taken the high road and accused everyone else of doing what they were doing. Then to have the Australian team do the same thing they had to come down like a ton of bricks or look like absolute hypocrites. It was why Smith and Warner got such huge bans. It was all political.

I'd love to see a statistical comparison between Watson & Flintoff.
Batting was simliar with Watson a slight advantage.
Flintoff had 5 hundreds and 26 50's compared to Watsons 4 &24 but Watson avg 35 and Freddie 32.

Freddie was a much better bowler though with a 150 extra wickets.

I'd take Freddie over Watson.

Watto spent a lot of his career opening though which is harder than batting 6/7. I'm taking Watto no question.

Flintoff was a genuine top 3 quick though who either allowed an extra batter or spinner in the team.
Watson was not good enough to be selected as purely a batter or bowler so had to be a top 6 batter who bowled.
Watson was also the king of getting 50's then getting out. Incredibly frustrating batter. Bit like M Marsh. Looked good scoring but could never go on with it.
Freddie also got out chasing runs at the end of innnings batting with bunnies and facing the second new ball but I agree Watson was a better batter but not player IMO.

Watson in limited overs format, Freddie in tests

It's the vanilla selection.
Pretty much

Can't wait to see Morris unleashed at some point though, always something magical about seeing someone bowls thunderbolts at speed (especially if you aren't the one facing it!)

Don't get me wrong - Neser is a fantastic cricketer and also really unlucky given Australia's bowling depth. But Morris with a pink ball under lights bowling 150+ would be awesome.

This is literally Neser's speciality. If it was anything other than a day night test i would agree about giving the debut to Morris. Also debuting Morris would likely mean keeping Hazlewood instead of starc in the side which again is the wrong move for a pink ball test imo.

Tendulkar got done for ball tampering, the Indians played the race card and refused to acknowledge his suspension and resulted in the next game being a dead rubber

Watto bowled roughly a third of the balls Freddie did and took roughly a third as many wickets. At much the same economy and SR.

Watto has the same number of 5W hauls. Maybe Watto would be seen as a match winner in the same light if he had been able to bowl regularly. Who knows.

Theres a reason Watto only bowled what he did. If you watched them both bowl theres noway you can compare them.
Freddie could bowl 140+ with reverse swing and seam. Swing both the new ball and reverse the old ball.

Maybe at the start of his career before injuries Watto could bowl 140 but for most of his career he was in the low 130's with only marginal movement.
