The only opposition thats competitive in Australia and actually troubles Australia is India. As good as Nz are at home and even overseas they struggle here hard. That said I rather see NZ here more often than Windies/Pak
SA won their last three series here, 5 years ago India had never won a series here. There's a lot of teams that could challenge Aus in Aus if they had help with their development and domestic competitions, problem is Australia, England, India and by proxy the ICC have no interest in helping them do that and test cricket is quickly dying outside those three countries because of it.

SA’s demise came fast. India is just gonna get stronger and stronger. They now seem to unearth quicks out of no where. Watched umran malik recently and that kids gonna be a menace if he can translate to a test player. Bloke can genuinely bowl mid 150’s

Hindsight is easy, but most thought it was a bad decision to start with.

Morris for Agar and Boland for Renshaw would've been the way to go IMO.

A second spinner was ok but it shouldn’t have been at the expense of a 3rd quick

Should have been one of Morris or Boland and one of Renshaw or Agar.

Also a question on whether Agar is the next best spinner behind Lyon when evidence says he’s not

Agar should have been bought in for green in the all- rounder position.

Boland should have played or Morris should have come in . Morris bowling 150km+ would have been a point of difference on that dead pitch

Renshaw was the big head scratcher for me .

Todd Murphy for Agar made more sense.

I don’t think they want a second right hand offie for India given Lyon and Head already provide that.

Absolutely sickening....

Nonetheless, SCG Trust Chairman said the New Year’s Test is off limits for other states.
“There is absolutely no way the New Year’s match is being moved from the SCG,” Shepherd told Fox Sports News.
"It’s a long tradition, it’s a fantastic tradition. We had 22,000 people waiting for the game to start. That’s how dedicated we are.

Shock horror, the SCG trust chairman doesn't want the SCG to lose the New Year test.
He tried to sidetrack to derail attention from the fact the SCG constantly loses days and gets drab drawn Tests due to the weather by oddly mentioning how much he loved going to the MCG as a child.
Strange dude.

Three days earlier he was talking about Sydney's need for a roofed stadium - until I presume the powers that be got in his ear

This bit

“I think it’s an iconic event on the sporting calendar, people plan their entire holiday’s around it, we saw over 30,000 people come out on day one,” Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said.

Of course people plan their holidays around it. A guaranteed date on the cricket calendar is a privilege afforded only to the MCG and SCG, dates which also happen to be the most convenient to have time off to attend a test match

Perth and especially Adelaide would be able to match the crowds Sydney draws and the game would be a better spectacle given the significantly lower chance of rain interrupting the game

That article stated 5 of the last 8 Sydney tests have been drawn, which didn’t include this test so the chances of a result now sit at 1 in 3 based on the last decade

Traditions went out the window when the BBL came into existence and upturned the cricket calendar

Play the game at a venue that isn’t going to lose >20% of the playing time to wet weather and/or bad light that comes with it

Yeah tuggs but really our premier offie only took 2 poles from 55 overs so I think the criticism of agar is a bit over the top ..so would murphy made the difference ??

To ask your bowling group to take 20 poles in 1 and half days is a big ask....warney and may would struggle back in there heyday

The biggest issue for me tuggs was the no picking of Morris. To pick two lads Outside of the squad made F88k all sense to me...the australian selectors treated this game as a tour match for India..which was wrong...renshaw was kissed on the dick big time

The selectors knew about the weather...they knew it was going to be rain interrupted they knew that it was not going to be a dry week of 30 plus for the spinners .....a 150 quick bowling short bursts against a weak Saffers batting lineup in bad light is what was needed....Morris would of cleaned up ....we missed a HUGE opportunity IMO not to blood Morris...I guarantee if he was a quick from NSW it would of been different

An allrounder should of come in hardie plus the extra spinner...I would of gone sweppo because I believe he has been treated harshly in pakistan on flat roads and should of been given an opportunity to play in front of his home crowd and the selectors showing some support

Agar should not of played but I would pick him for india as SLO go well over there
