“I think it’s an iconic event on the sporting calendar, people plan their entire holiday’s around it, we saw over 30,000 people come out on day one,” Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said.

Of course people plan their holidays around it. A guaranteed date on the cricket calendar is a privilege afforded only to the MCG and SCG, dates which also happen to be the most convenient to have time off to attend a test match

Perth and especially Adelaide would be able to match the crowds Sydney draws and the game would be a better spectacle given the significantly lower chance of rain interrupting the game

That article stated 5 of the last 8 Sydney tests have been drawn, which didn’t include this test so the chances of a result now sit at 1 in 3 based on the last decade

Traditions went out the window when the BBL came into existence and upturned the cricket calendar

Play the game at a venue that isn’t going to lose >20% of the playing time to wet weather and/or bad light that comes with it
Perth and Adelaide would be a sell out for a new years test. Reading social media comments you come across with “but Perth can’t get a crowd” by the East Coast plebs. The media has a lot to blame as they did highlight without disclosing that it was a Wednesday game in early December against the lowely Windies.

Anyway I rather Adelaide oval cop the New Years test as the venue it self is iconic

Adelaide has the day night test, which Perth will never get (and I don’t have an issue with that)

CA get better bang for buck with the NY test being a seperate event that the day night test

Yeah tuggs but really our premier offie only took 2 poles from 55 overs so I think the criticism of agar is a bit over the top ..so would murphy made the difference ??

To ask your bowling group to take 20 poles in 1 and half days is a big ask....warney and may would struggle back in there heyday

The biggest issue for me tuggs was the no picking of Morris. To pick two lads Outside of the squad made F88k all sense to me...the australian selectors treated this game as a tour match for India..which was wrong...renshaw was kissed on the dick big time

The selectors knew about the weather...they knew it was going to be rain interrupted they knew that it was not going to be a dry week of 30 plus for the spinners .....a 150 quick bowling short bursts against a weak Saffers batting lineup in bad light is what was needed....Morris would of cleaned up ....we missed a HUGE opportunity IMO not to blood Morris...I guarantee if he was a quick from NSW it would of been different

An allrounder should of come in hardie plus the extra spinner...I would of gone sweppo because I believe he has been treated harshly in pakistan on flat roads and should of been given an opportunity to play in front of his home crowd and the selectors showing some support

Agar should not of played but I would pick him for india as SLO go well over there
Like Chappelli said, our selectors are conservative.
Morris should've played the last two tests.

I just don't think Agar is test quality so why not give the young fella a go?

Malcolm Conn on radio last week saying West Aussies don't support cricket.

Yet we turn up in droves for the BBL.

He's a massive prick.

Select only small datasets that enforce and prove your point, ignoring everything else.
Confirmation bias with a healthy dash of incompetence.

Combine that with the fact that these are zero sum outcomes. For WA/Perth to benefit then someone else is missing out therefore there's no incentive to be objective

We wouldnt get a look in if the NY test was moved, sucks but we are not even guaranteed a summer test (recent 4 test India tour or when egotistical premiers decide to close the border like last Ashes). I hope like hell Adelaide get it but it will never, ever happen. Sydney New Years is almost as iconic as MCG Boxing Day.

If Khawaja lives above a bowling alley and under another bowling alley it's because he designed his mansion that way though.

Was watching some old BBL highlight and man James Faulkners demise is really sad. Was winning games for Australia at like 22/23 and his last appearance for Australia was at 27. He’s no longer playing any domestic cricket here

Its a huge shame how his career panned out.

He flamed out at the Canes with issues with management and then did the same thing at the Pakistan League about payments (I believe there was an issue about being paid into a British account instead of an Australian one but it sounded a bit he said she said.

He did launch some cricket gear on a chandelier which was pretty impressive though.

Gillespie may be the only Australian cricketer to get dropped after scoring a double ton. It ended up being his last Test I believe.

Pretty sure as a genuine batsman Martin Love made a century in what became his final test or final innings before having to make way.

Looks like Aggers already has his ticket.

Wish they'd give Todd Murphy a try.

Australia v India news: Ashton Agar guaranteed selection despite SCG struggles

Ashton Agar’s wicketless Test poses a huge question for Australia heading into a tour of India – but the bowling all-rounder has been guaranteed a ticket to the spin bowling centre of the world.

“I’m sure Ash will be there. Left-arm orthodox, he’ll absolutely be there,” Cummins said.

“It wasn’t an audition at all. This wicket was a lot different to India. It wasn’t really spinning out of the middle of the wicket (like it might in India).

“We thought the wicket was going to spin more than it did.

“I thought he did really well.”

CA selectors are ****ing idiots, in all 3 forms of the game.

Indian batsmen are the best players of spin in the world. Particularly on their own conditions. What is the point of sending a guy who may be the 4th/5th best spin bowler in Australia just because of the type of bowler he is when teams best grade spinners in India will be superior spinner to Agar. Agar has a huge problem in regards to tests and it will continue to be shown up. He bowls 1-2 shithouse balls every over which means he goes for plenty of runs. If you wanted that level of output or better Smith, Head, Labuschagne can all produce that.

****ing ridiculous.

Mind you head is a 50/50 chance of averaging sub 20 in india as he is just not a quality player of spin and plays with hard hands. Sure if he's going to get to the pitch of every ball it'll be a different scenario but we'll see.

Barring a ****ing miracle Warner will be a huge disappointment and is probably an even higher chance of turning out shit than Head however we really have no-one else to open right now. In saying that Khawaja wasn't an opener and has done the job magnificently and is now easily our best option to open the batting in the sub continent due to his batting technique and ability against spin.

Lastly for a team so dominant over the summer Carey needs to be spending more time on his glove work.

Australia's best chance of winning in India is playing our best bowlers and that includes 3 pacers. Starc is an auto selection due to being a left armer, Hazelwood is an automatic selection due to how straight up and down he is which on flat indian pitches is the most likely way to take wickets as a seamer and then the third seamer is up for discussion. Bit hard not selecting the captain but I would pick Neser as he has the variations and swing abilities that can work over there.

3 of Australia's 5 best players of spin are already in the side in Khawaja, Smith and Labuschagne. Head on form 100% deserves a chance over there. Maybe they are thinking the same with warner however as someone who has become increasing turned off by cricket due to superbats and T20 do we have another option for India?

If a left arm orthodox bowler is so important...

Pick Kuhnemann

LOL. Best quick in world cricket and the captain. He could bag 0/300 in the first test and be first picked in the second.
