Something to do with the dye and the leather interacting?? You would think, logically, that there would be no difference, but there is.

It's quite remarkable.

I remember the issues when they first tried to produce non-red balls for D/N one day matches. The paint cracked, the coating fell off and so on. Even though it was only supposed to last 50 overs vs. the teat ball 90 overs, it just wouldn't.
For a few years they even used a different ball from each end. So only 25 overs a ball. And they still had problems.

Doesn't this rule out colour blind players from playing tests ?

(Was it Chris Rogers that couldn't play Day Night tests because of this ?)

Orange was one of the first colours tried way back in one of the domestic one day series (Mercantile?). Anyway, short-lived as was impossible to see under lights.
I know the old pink and white balls we use at training deteriorate and soften a lot more than the red balls. Big difference in durability.

Anyway good luck tonight you Scorchers w***ers. Looking forward to the completion of the Heat fairytail- spoon to flag in under 3 weeks.
