Thought Moeen bowled well yesterday personally. Should have had Green early and kept tossing it up even when we looked to take him downtown.

He's a sound selection for their BazBall approach to the game.

I enjoyed the part where he was getting taken for consecutive 6s, but less so where he got Head out

It's called positive cricket. Simple as that. If you crew want to polish each others knob over a few minor details, so be it.
Test cricket has always had individual players that counter-attack an innings, and also had plenty of teams that target a particular session or block of a days play to set up a declaration etc..

But this is a consistent effort of a team to go at 4-5 runs an over from Day 1. Look at how they played in NZ recently and tell me that its not a new concept.

Minor details apparently.......

It’s definitely the right selection for them with their aging quicks. They needed a spinner who has been dropped a lot but comfortable where they are at in their career. England know we will go after Moe at every opportunity to try and get their oldies back bowling extra spells. I think he has been picked on character more than talent.

Poms $3.15 seems decent right now.

Yeah I’m surprised we’re considered favourites

Still 80 odd runs behind with a long tail and a relatively new ball. If either Ussie or Carey fall early it’s a good chance we have a first innings deficit and will need to chase on a wearing pitch

I think Lyon will be a handful on a pitch starting to turn with English’s bazzball approach. Might get a few away but eventually you’re gunna get one that turns.
If we can get parity/slight lead I’d say we’re ahead in the game due to Lyon.
We’ve just spent a few months in India with slow dusty wickets. Think this pitches favours us a bit.

Part of Bazball positive cricket has been that Stokes has set very sporting targets so it'll be interesting to see if that holds.
Anything around 300 would be generous, despite a wearing wicket. I don't rate this attack all that highly, particularly if the clouds stay away.

Trouble is, of course, is Warner vs Broad leaving us 1 down inside half an hour.

I was concerned about the opening pair but owe Usman an apology. Warner is mentally shot against Broad. The opener’s job is to see off the new ball, not try and score quickly from ball one.
Usman showed him how to play on a slow dry wicket. This was an Oval August wicket, not your usual June seamer. Against a moving Dukes Usman is vulnerable. On a good batting wicket he is all class.
Unless we get a lead of 150 we will be chasing a 400 plus score. We need to take time out of the game unless the wicket starts to really turn.

Eng would be completely dominating if Stokes had told Bairstow he'd instructed the bowlers to bowl pies all day....he would've gobbled up those missed chances.
Always interesting, what is a keeper worth? The runs they score/how they do it v opportunities/great keeping

The West Indies didn't do that ? Really ?

Bazball is far more than run rate. (Although no side has gone at over 5 an over before, consistently). It's also about field placements, bowling changes, declarations, setting up the game in ultra-aggressive fashion. Nobody has ever done it quite like this. Great to watch.

how the * does KP get a gig commentating?

I'd rather listen to Slats skyping in from jail or wherever he is now.
