The only shame about the rain is it's going to paper over a lot of the stupid decisions the Aus team have made during this match and this series.
Whilst I agree, I would still rather retain the Ashes, beat the Poms, shut the frothing over Bazball the fk up and then worry about our own idiotic cricket later…

Well with the lead that they had and one eye on the weather, maybe that Pommy Pricks should have declared a lot earlier and give themselves a better chance to bowl us out 🤷‍♂️.
And had they then needed to chase a small total then their much touted Bazball should do the trick … easie piese.

Of course the opportunity to bat on and make a humongous first innings was just to strong a lure.

They shot themselves in the foot.

They had their moment of domination and decided to linger in it to long.

Tactically flawed …. So suck it up .

So it turns out that all this time having sunshine when England were batting and cloud when England were bowling, the weather was just lulling them into a false sense of security. Making them think it was on their side just to stab them in the back.

So the Weather is not in the spirit of cricket?

Yeah they had the luck of the weather for the whole series so can’t complain really. Should’ve declared earlier

I mean not really though as if they'd declared earlier we'd have built a lead sooner so either way it was going to chew up some time.
Yeah but they could've run through us as well.
They had to get us out first before considering any chase.

The certainly didn't need to get nearly 600.

Anyway, I won't relax until it's called off officially.

They are saying if the rain hasn't stopped in the next 1hr/1hr.5 then it'll likely be called as they would need another 1hr to prepare the ground before play could start so looking very much like a rained out day.

Great news to wake up to.

Now for the Aussies to take a good hard look at how they got themselves into this position. I want to have one result where the team actually plays well for four innings.

I would like to see a much better performance in the last test, they looked devoid of ideas for a long time.

Marsh needs to stay in, Green should be playing as well.

I think Murphy in for Warner would be ideal with somebody else opening but I can't see that happening so I don't know what they'll do selection wise.

:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

10 years ago, when Alastair Cook’s England side also won the first two Tests, one of them very narrowly, and then secured the urn through Manchester rain when 3-37 chasing 332 a few minutes after lunch on the final day.

At the time, Stuart Broad had tweeted “We have retained the Ashes and it feels magnificent!!!“, while Paul Collingwood, an assistant coach, paid tribute to the weather: “I love days like this. Never get bored of beating the Aussies. Ashes retained.”
