The complaints against Langer were more about temper and mood swings (likely exacerbated by the serious head injuries he sustained as a player). I don't see Voges having similar issues.

Batting is a much bigger worry for mine than the bowling, but other than magically fixing Head's hand and going back in time and stopping Maxwell breaking his leg, not sure what the option is.

I still don't think our best team has Marnus in it but dropping him for Carey/Green would be madness.

I think it might be worth flipping Marsh and Smith in the order and telling Smith to play as attacking as he was playing in the BBL.

Culturally this team is weird, like we're stuck in no-man's land.

It felt like the days of sharp practice had done their dash. So we made the golden boy captain and put in the agreeable, player empowering coach. I get the impression that they wanted to be liked, felt that they had earned it.

But then we do stuff like the Bairstow dismissal which was irreconcilable with that vision. If the continued treatment in England of Smith and Warner hadn't already made it apparent that Australia will never be 'liked', the aftermath from that incident certainly did.

If we want to be a NZ or England vibes based team, commit to it, and choose fresh faces 'untarnished' by the old regime to lead it. Or return to the uncompromising hard Australian cricket. Australian's were fine with that, we just didn't want the cheating or ****ing barking.

Right now we're nowhere and without an identity, completely lost. And that's without consideration of the broader staid selection, tactics, poor standards and ability to adjust between formats.
