I know all the players say it's about team success and winning the flag and the individual awards are nice but not the reason they play footy. Hell, that sentiment has been shared round these parts to the tune of "stuff the AA, Brownlow / midfielders award, a premiership is all that matters".

But that Emac 2014 season was one of the most comprehensive lock down key defender displays we've seen in the modern game, and the fact he broke down soon after, and never got his opportunity to right the wrong is pretty bullshit. He deserves the jacket to look back on and be proud of, just like he deserves life membership.

It's easy to forgot just how good he was. It also puts into perspective just how good our drafting of talls has been in the last few years, as the team hasn't really missed him. A real shame he didn't hit 150 games for life membership (stranded on 147), hopefully they award it to him anyway.

I just tried to mentally rate Mackenzie against all our defenders over the years.
It reminded me of just how many super star defenders we have had at the club since inception.
