Hmmm not sure being the "big fish" in a sport that is critiqued to an inch of its life daily is all that it's cracked up to be sometimes.

Ablett Franklin and Boyd are 3 examples that come to mind. 2 of the 3 have had mental battles while the other is dying to leave his paradise and return home asap and hates doing media or any publicity!!!

Dusty and or Kelly are not coming to Hawthorn.

Been saying it for months but I think folks are kidding themselves thinking the hawks would throw big money at a marquee signing. It's not what we need.

Not to mention it goes completely against clarkos philosophy ever since he arrived at the club.

I will eat my hat if we don't target up and coming youngsters, disgruntled players looking to cement a spot and solid but not superstar level proven players. I think deep down we all know this is the hawthorn way too.

I don't believe what clarko has said on this. We have gone after players like Carlisle for about 700k? JOM 700k? Or there abouts, under the old CBA. What is 700k the equivalent of now under the new deal? Two things i dont trust the club over, injury time lines (players always seem to come back early) and free agency... I'm pretty sure they said the same the Carlisle year? We wouldnt be going after anyone? I think he is foxing all the way to shocking the AFL world with a big fish signing

I would say not 1 big fish but a few decent ones
Who ever got the big fish would know they had them by now
So no use keeping expectations high if you dont have them
Part of the game is making who gets them to have paid more too

Reality is top end talent is what we need though, I don't care how much people deny it we are lacking elite talent and that's the main reason we are so far off the pace at the moment.

Are we so far off the pace? Not disagreeing about needing the talent but our last month has been pretty darn good

Well I don't think we are so far off the pace I worded that poorly, what I meant to say if we landed a big fish it could jump us from 12th-13th to top 4... Take Martin or Dangerfield out of Geelong and Richmond and were would they finish ?

We dont want to be relying on one player. Teams win premierships teams win games of football

People said that about Dangerfield and Adelaide, or the Hawks and Franklin. Sometimes an over reliance on players creates a weaker team.

I'm balanced with this. Losing Hodge and Burgers will be a big loss. That's why a Big Fish for me is tempting. Our position on the ladder is not a good indicator given that we took 3 or so months to gell. Imagine if we were playing like we have recently all year? I think we'd be much higher on the ladder

I think getting Tom M has been amazing and he is an elite talent. However, blowing 1.3 on Dusty could stuff the team up for years.

Trading in newish younger players has been better thus far. Not sure how we can and scared of getting into hypoethiczl territory other than to say trading players out with currency would be a good move right about now
