If Martin was given a handshake deal last year it wouldn't have been for anything close to $1.2mill.

So there's that....
Agreed, but any handshakes last year would have had all parties thinking pick ~4-6 range compensation. Now they are looking at ~11-14 range, which means the mechanics of the move and/or salary offer may need to change.

Dusty extending his Tiger stay is in no way screwing Richmond.
So a huge deal that everyone seem to think would ruin the "Hawthorn way" in terms of salary cap is ok for Richmond?
If Dusty comes for 1.2 a lot of ppl will soon change their tune I guess that we go the big fish we were after & the salary cap was not a concern.

I think given how much impact Dusty is having on football games 1.2 mill per season is about par and he'd be worth every cent of that, he really isn't far off Dangerfield at the moment.

Martin is a much better kick of the football, so I'd say he is better than Dangerfield
He is an absolute gun, who I really hope we are chasing hard
If it takes $1.2 m to get him, so be it

One thing's for certain. Win 3-4 of these last games and Free Agents will be licking their lips at joining a rebounding Hawthorn with the master coach.
Be kind of energizing, seeing yourself partnering with a behemoth club with lots of nice young players and the opportunity to be judged as having played a significant part in catapulting the Hawks back into top 4 and dicing for cups.
Step up young guns-with-stones who want to join the honor wall.

I want us to land a big fish as much as anyone but I don't want to pay them a f*ckload more than what our best players currently get.

Clarko has built our club on the foundation of players taking less than their market value so we could not just win 1 premiership but to consistently compete and it's landed us 4 premierships.

I don't want us losing a Tom Mitchell because we have to pay a Buddy.

There's is no one on our list who warrants what is being thrown at dusty. While TOM is a master at what he does and a bloody good footballer, he is still not on Martins level because he still has limitations in certain areas of his game.

On current output, Martin is worth every bit of his 1.2mil price tag.

Richmond will be top 4 by the end of today. Take Martin out of their side and they wouldn't even play finals. Geelong will now probably finish top 2 and should be flag favourites given the MCG factor. Take Dangerfield out of their side and they would be battling out for a finals spot.

If we somehow land Martin and O'Meara gets his body right, we could be back up near the top as soon as next year.

We'd be top 4 next year if that somehow happened IMO.

Box Hill Hawks.
Somehow I think most posters on here are missing the point here. Just consider our team -best 22- is similar to a jig saw puzzle,
What piece, or pieces do we need to complete the picture?
In my opinion we could do with a receiver from Mitchell, who can get the ball to our outside runners. If he wasn't tagging, maybe Howe could do this role, or maybe a fit Jaeger could slot in here.

Hopefully Tim O comes on to become a top class marking forward, Ty hasn't shown he is of much value. With Gunners looking to take over as the backline general, we need a replacement for him up forward. Resting Cegs and BB forward might be the answer here.

I would hate to see a Martin, or any Big Fish come in at the expense of some the young players, who will be looking for financial rewards when their contracts are due.

Oh to be able to read the mind of our coach.

I want Lachie Whitfield, Lever and Kelly. Surely that's do-able.

Maybe not ...but still want them
