... a little chuckle knowing we screwed Richmond again and we swoop on Hopper
There is no doubting Dusty's talent but he has NO marketing value for "the family club". Besides Tippett, all players getting the million + dollars promote their clubs in the media = more fans. Dustin hates the media stuff.

And for mine, no import coming to the Hawks should be paid more than Cyril Rioli.

Dusty is currently at the top of his game and so will NEVER be worth more than he is now. His value as a player is enormous but his inclusion would impact on the Hawks ability to create a champion team, given the salary cap... Dusty at 1.2 mill sucks away the money to retain the players who really win premierships: the last 5 players picked...

We can do better

A Saints guy posted this on twitter View attachment 396208
Devon Smith: we don't need.
Matt Kennedy: we don't need.
Jacob Hopper: yes please* with a previso... Jacob has/had a medical condition that affects his heart known as supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). Essentially it means that at times his heart races for no good reason, blood circulation is compromised and he looses all stamina. Note: this info is freely available on the net and given by Jacob.
It is not something that is life threatening.

Jacob says that he had an operation on his heart that impacted on a nerve.

I found this info on Dr Google:
If you have repeated episodes of SVT, an operation called catheter ablation is the recommended treatment option. This prevents further episodes of SVT by destroying the tiny parts of the heart causing the problems in the heart's electrical system.
Catheter ablation is a safe and highly effective treatment, and means you no longer need to take medication. It cures SVT in over 95% of people and is the recommended treatment worldwide.

From my reading Jacob has had this operation. (Again my guess from stuff I have read of quotes from Jacob).
* = if he is fixed... Get him

Before the operation he was known for his aerobic capacity, inside decision making and outside skills to finish. After the operation he may loose his shackles and become something special.

I say again, Jacob Hopper, YES PLEASE.

I am yet to find info on Jacob that says that his character is likely to send him off the rails. Everything I have read about him says that he is a genuinely good man. Dare I say it, worthy of "the family club".

Please Wrighty, give Jacob Hopper a 4 year deal at $450k. And Jacob, you may get bigger offers but the hawks are unparrellelled for team success. Please joint us

I think Kennedy is being very underrated. I think he has a very bright future ahead of him and was a Hawks fan growing up.
Would love to have him at the Hawks.
The Hawks have half backs like Kennedy coming out their waazoo. Kennedy is a talented player but not what the Hawks need.

Our backline has been awesome of late. 5 of our regular backline players are injured and yet the backline is functioning well (with a game style change). Conor Glass' first game was reported as being composed and quality (I don't have Foxtel and so cannot personally comment).
As far as I can see the Hawks don't need Kennedy.

We need an inside mid with kicking skills .... The BEST player available = Dustin Martin. The RIGHT player = Jacob Hopper.

The Hawks have half backs coming out their warzoo. Harry Morrison is doing very well at Box Hill. If Kennedy were recruited then Harry's place in the Hawks team is gone. Liking a player and wanting them in your team is understandable.
But bringing in a player often mean another player goes out.
Loving Kennedy at the Hawks = goodbye to Harry Morrison. Definately something I would not want.

The Hawks backline has been awesome of late (with 5 starting 22 players out).
Kennedy is a talented player but we don't need him.

So NO to Kennedy. ( good player but not what the Hawks need)
Matt Kennedy is not a half back, he is a midfielder. I am pretty sure you are thinking of Adam Kennedy

Arr... Right you are .... I was thinking of Adam.

For no reason that I can say I think Jacob Hopper has the capacity to become a great footballer.. But he needs the right group to help him.

As to Matthew Kennedy I have no personal comment on how good he can become. Everything I read about his past is good... See below. But where is he? Something tells me... Meh

Mathew Kennedy, OUT OF CONTRACT end of 2017

From his draft year
Contested ball winning ability – Kennedy is a strong contested ball winner and goes in hard at the footy, using his big body to advantage.
Composure with ball in hand – Kennedy with ball in hand has excellent composure, just not rushing and taking his time before moving on the ball.
Contested marking ability – Kennedy has strong hands overhead and is a reliable mark around the ground and also is a marking threat forward of centre who can take 1v1 and pack marks at times.
Tackling ability – Kennedy is a strong, hard tackler and provides excellent tackling pressure, with a technically sound and strong tackling ability to go with it.
Rate of improvement – Kennedy has improved rapidly, coming from not being on my radar last year to being one of the standout talents in this draft with his early season form and game to game improvement.
Running ability and work rate – While I don’t have any of Kennedy’s testing results I’d imagine he would test reasonable well overall, with his strength more towards endurance running as someone who covers the ground well. He also critically works both ways and provides good two way run.
Scoreboard impact – Kennedy from his five TAC Cup games, while playing mostly through the midfield has kicked six goals which suggests that scoreboard impact is something that he may be able to offer at the next level.
Weaknesses:
Footskills – Kennedy despite his composure in traffic still by foot is developing consistency.
Outside balance – At this stage Kennedy is a strong contested ball winner who is excellent at stoppages but at this stage lacks the weapons or ability on the outside to do any damage or do something constructive with ball in hand, with that lack of consistency by foot particularly hurting him here.
Summary:
Kennedy projects to become a 200 gamer who can have a strong career on the ball and on occasion pushing forward. He likely will take time to develop but by season two has enough talent to push for regular senior opportunities as a big bodied midfielder.

So, is that info copy and pasted from Liam Shiels draft reference?

Not getting all the fuss about Hopper, the kid has had a buzz on him from his predraft days as an academy player. He couldn't have had a greater saloon passage to the AFL but after two seasons still can't get his crap together. I'd rather avoid the snake oil.

If we got Kennedy and Hopper, then job done as far as the midfield rebuild goes as far as I'm concerned. I'd be absolutely stoked with this outcome. I'd rather spend 800k a year on these guys (total not each) than 800k a year on Whitfield to be honest.
