He's played a couple of break out games, but then he seems to go back inside and repair the window again. Never stays broken out.
No not "official" as a break out but this year is the prelude to a #23 revival. He will never be a Buddy or Dermott but as a 23 he has the tools to be able to play a good/solid game

Rioli, frawley and omeara will push us forward in a big way next year.

One forward one back one mid.
This is why getting Lever would be massive. Frawley playing with another great defender just lifts his game immensely. Was an excellent player for us in 2015.

The jungle drums are beating louder regarding Lever. Notice how Stevo quizzed BT in the rooms after the game tonight about where he thought Lever was heading. Mind you Sicily was exceptional in defence tonight which is just an added bonus.

2018 ins: Rioli, Frawley, Puopolo, Birchall, Ceglar, Stratton, O'Meara. I think we are looking ok aren't we?
The amazing question after tonight is now who for though...

Beaten/should have beaten every serious challenger for the flag in the last 6 weeks.

Glass looks fantastic but obviously a long way from the finished product.

I'd say Cyrils obviously a must have.

Whitecross and possibly Hartung are perennially in/out. One goes for Jaeger.

Ceglar shouldn't get a game in this new system as long a Big boy is playing so well and Toby can relieve.

As rock solid as Frawley and Stratton are I can only see one come into the current team as Brand is looking better by the week. Maybe one comes in to push Burton higher up the field.

Doc and Langers, although not at Poppys level, seem to bring other traits. Langers still a bull in the mids. Doc has lovely hair.

So much has changed in such a short amount of time it's amazing.

A very good problem to have again isn't it. Competition for spots drives those outside the 22 to work harder to claim a spot and those in the 22 to keep their spot.

Frawley and Brand with Stratton, Sicily, Dimma and Birch is a very handy back 6. If we get Lever, Frawley or Stratton probably drop out the best 22.
Brand has been a revelation this year, but at full fitness, Frawley and Stratton are still better players.

Frawley in particular, I think he is under rated on this board. He is a beast.

Bushrangers, Kings,
Our list management is going to be incredibly difficult.

I can't see Brand Sicily Birchall Hardwick not being part of our back 6 next year.

So if we were going to go for Lever who I do like then one of Stratton or Frawley becomes a potential trade option in my mind.

Burton and Gunston will both move midfield/forward next season and I am loving what I am seeing with Conor Glass who is a good size and strong as a spare parts back.

Burton Howe Omeara Mitchell Smith Shiels Hartung Langford Cousins and Lovell is potentially a handy mix to run through the middle.

From our side last night you would say not all of Frawley Stratton Birchall Rioli Poppy Omeara and Ceglar are guaranteed of a spot moving forward which is great for our depth.

Exciting times ahead as we are building much faster than anyone expected.

what did he say, I missed it
Stevo asked BT his thoughts on where he had heard Jake Lever was going mid conversation about how well the Hawthorn kids had come on and BT wouldn't be drawn into it but I sensed Stevo was referring to Lever becoming a Hawk at seasons end. BT seems to be in the know re Lever as it isn't the first time he has been asked his thoughts in the last couple of weeks. It he's been quick to deflect. Pure speculation but it was a question from nowhere in the rooms after the game which I thought was intriguing.

I saw that as well. Was hoping they would go into more depth about it.

Unpopular opinion of the day:
I don't want Lever and don't think we need him. We should be targeting another midfielder instead.

He's a terrific player, but I am completely happy with where our backline sits at the moment and don't want to trade either Frawley or Stratton. Both are 28 and will be hitting their prime very soon and are premiership stars, they deserve to stay and prove they belong in the team and not be traded after an injury plagued season.

Our best back six next season should look like:
Hardwick Frawley Stratton
Birchall Brand Sicily

Brand and Sicily have come on extremely well this year and deserve to take Hodge and Gibson's spots, they will only get better with more games. Birchall instantly makes us a better side.

Burton and Gunston will push up into Midfield/Forward roles, and while Conor Glass has some talent and will become a good player, he's still a little raw and good injury cover for time being.

Want more run. That's what I want. So it's Lachie W for me.

Wouldn't mind a young tall forward prospect too

Agree that our defender stocks are getting big. That said we are losing Hodge and Burgers soon.

Was a little worried about our HB line at the start of the year but I'm bloody stoked with it now

Lever would give us the flexibility to use Burton and Sicily elsewhere, including in the midfield.

Stevo said to BT your the number 1 ticket holder of the Jake Lever fan club.
And as above quizzed him about where he would be next year.
BT gave it a dead bat but I too found it amusing that this conversation was had inside the Hawthorn change rooms.
