Frawley and Brand with Stratton, Sicily, Dimma and Birch is a very handy back 6. If we get Lever, Frawley or Stratton probably drop out the best 22.
No chance Frawley or Stratton drop out. For anyone. Not for 2 or 3 more years.

Sicily could play defensive wing. Gunston could go back to half forward.

But this assumes Clarko doesnt redesign the team all over again.

We know he is already thinking about 2018.

I don't know if you've watched the last 6-odd weeks but Sicily's stats suggest he could be an elite half-back.
What's that got to do with what I said though?

Sicily is going to excell as a third tall defender, and when a key defender like Lever is available you get it done.

At what cost though?

I see it as a best player available vs. a player in area of need situation in terms of recruitment. Do we really need another defender when our backline seems to be functioning well as is - if it's not broken why fix it?

I feel a bit like this this.

Frawley and Brand as the keys, Sicily, Burton, Stratton floating around and Hardwick/Duryea as the small looks pretty solid to me.

I want that midfield fixed.

Completely agree that midfield is the number one priority (a key forward would be handy too).

That said, what you need is 5-6 elite players on the list. At the moment this is where our list falls short. We have a lot of good players and a lot of role players but we have lost many champions over the last couple years.

Lever is an elite player. If Lever is the only one available and he wants to join us, we do the deal. If that means a 28 year old Frawley or Stratton become surplus to our needs, trade them out. Lever is the type who build a defence around. If he and Sicily played together, no side will succeed bombing the ball in against us for a decade.

& you can fix the midfield by adding Lever to the backline & sending Burton into the midfield ;)

Stratton and Frawley are very slim chances of being on our list when we challenge for our next flag.
It's not broken now, but we don't want Burton wasting his skill set on a back flank, and we aren't going to have Hodge, Burgoyne or Birchall on the list then either.

Getting Lever means that when we hit Clarkson's desired window of opportunity(2021) we have a 25yr old fullback who can take us to multiple finals series, rather than a 31yr old about to retire.

Midfielders will look after themselves, via trade, draft or FA(and we already have Lovell and Burton just waiting to get in there).

Am i the only one who feels our biggest area of need is up forward?

With Lovell, JOR and JOM all hopefully available soon and Gunston, Burton and Sicily showing their wares down back, I think we need a KPF.

Realistically we may not as Burton, Sicily and Gunston may be just a good up front together over the next few years.

It's hard to know where we need to bolster if they keep playing everyone all over the ground.

Maybe we just need the best available and shuffle accordingly?

He's not a third for mine, Burto is... he's more a repalcement for Birch...

I've heard that although we have interest in Lever it's actually McGovern that we have shown the most interest in but he is expected to head west if he leaves SA

Birchall is a runner flanker, who can't get his arms above his head.
Sicily is a floating 3rd tall, who takes overhead contested marks.

Burton is a utility, who is slated to be a mid.
