I agree. I compare him to Watts when he was drafted. Showed some nice things but you always questioned whether he was worth the hype. Continued to frustrate
A lot of Watts about him, I agree. That said, i've always thought that at the right club Watts could have been (and may yet still become) a very good player.

Courage is harder to teach, which is what I think both lack.

You may improve hardness and intensity but courage takes players to the next level and makes average players seem to be better than they are. We have been very fortunate to have recruited a number of players that are courageous, who don't let fear stop them from doing all that it takes to get the ball (Hardwick is a great contemporary example). We have also had exceptional leaders roll modelling this type of behaviour.

Hold onto your hats, people.

Clarko's speech last night was pretty emphatic about being bold, setting the club up for future success and how players and staff are "only custodians for a short time and the club remains eternal".

I expect he was softening the blow.
That was my take on his speech too.
And I immediately thought of Cyril.

Absolutely zero, zero, zero chance of us being able to trade for Schache. Not even worth wondering about.
zero + zero +zero = .... 0

I'm not as convinced, Brisbane need to build a club over the next 2 years. They've got Hodge but they could be helped by a few more experienced players which we might be able to offer (and from the same club as Hodge). If I were coaching them I'd be just as interested in a few players who could help transform the club as I would be in a late first round pick who might get homesick by their third year.

He was up in NT with his wife’s family for a previously organized engagement which the club knew all about.
He and his wife's family were touring the NT Thunder for the first massive inter-league trade. We're going to get Richard Tambling back.

Does this classify as Hypothetical trades?

Also, Big Fish related - Wright just confirmed that Impey is our big target, Duryea is staying and that we won't be overly big players.

He also said that the deal won't get done today (re: Impey), suggesting that we need to make a trade/swap first. Many have been speculating that our first draft pick could be a straight swap for Impey which looks unlikely given what GW said.

So do I still need to hold onto my hat?

Not big players, until an unexpected opportunity presents itself that we can't refuse.

Duryea is staying? Genuinely surprising...

Others have better understanding of trade period than me, but...

Does the statement "Duryea is staying" mean another club is interested and GW just pushing up the price a little?

When Melbourne did not offer enough to Lewis GW said he is not going anywhere.

Don't think so in this case, said a new deal had been agreed to which is stronger than just 'he is staying'. More importantly he is a RFA so we wouldn't get anything back from a club aside from compo which wouldn't be all that great anyway

After last year I have been a Big Fish sceptic unless it was by way of free agency. I will watch trade week closely but I am taking Wright at his word that we will be peripheral players this year. Next year of course may well be much more exciting.
However during trade week sometime an unexpected opportunity will arise as a fallout from other high profile trades.
We will see.

- Jarman Impey has named us as the team he wants to join, so i believe that will happen
- Whitecross (?), Hartung (WCE), Heatherley (?) and Puopolo (GWS)are likely to be traded out (this is my guesstimate)
- Duryea is likely staying, unless they can get a first rd compo?
- Willsmore + O'Rourke to be delisted...
- i'm sure HFC have another target or 2, but they would be moderately priced players, not expensive 2 first rder types

Doc apparently signed on, GWS list manager said Poppy is not happening

Don't think we could get first round compo for Doc even if someone gave him a big offer. Pick would be directly after our first pick in the draft

Excatly you never know who may pop up ala jake Carlisle who we made a last minute play on.
Im happy not to be a big player, I think a good run of injurys mainly cyril and jom and we will be close enough to the finals.
And make a big push next f.a!
And hopefully contend in 2019
