I'm all for going after Trengrove. He can play forward, back and give a chop out in the ruck. Then add some outside run either through another FA or trade. What are people's thoughts on Johanisson? I know he can cough it up from time to time but I love that he takes the game on. Any other outside players people think would fit in?

He is only too expensive for port because of their poor list management. We can afford him. Whether we'd want someone who turns 27 next year will depend on how far away we think we are.

Rockliff also will play at 28 next year, if the doom and gloom is correct we may look past but top quality players are hard to turn down, especially because we are going to struggle to get that talent in the draft or via trade.

structurally he'd be great (pending how this year pans out)
he can play forward, back or in the ruck
he's a leader
Trengove is the kind of free agent that will make the team stronger for mine

I was just trolling on the Hopper thread on the main board as if we could get Hopper & Whitfield... trade for Whitfield & secure Hopper PSD finishing last this season as a laugh.

What if we could get Hopper & Whitfield?

I have a way but this isn't a hypothetical thread ;)

It got me thinking..
I'll keep it short...

Projected side if everything works out for the better with every player listed, rose glasses on a couple, my take on a couple of players & only a couple of old heads kept by 2019.
We could easily get back into the draft with some shrewd trades & hard calls

Hardwick Surman Nash

Burton Brand Sicily

Whitfield Mitchell Hartung

Stewart Gunston Hopper

Rioli Roughy Vickery

Cegs Jäger JOR

Cousins, TOB, Glass, Pitto

• good kicking & running backline with intercept ability
• grunt, run & A grade quality through the Midfield
• a formidable ruck combination
• quality forward line
• gets Hawthorn back to the top end of the draft.

Is the big fish required???
I'm not to sure... but I don't think it is entirely necessary if we are looking at a 2-3 year projection of our side.
I am leaning toward youth, currently listed & targeted for the long haul to get that next extended era of dominance.

I'm starting to think someone of Hopper's age will be better for us also, anyone 27+ may be so old given the current demographic of our list.
100% - players like Rockliff and Trengrove should no longer be our targets. 25 and under is the age demographic we should be looking for.

How do we trade for younger players? We have a 2nd round this year and 1st round next year.

FA we just need to make big offers.

27 or 28 can be 3 or 4 very good years of football while the kids from the draft develop.

Must wait a year to trade our 2018 First Rounder & could pair it up with our 2019 First Rounder to get something significant.

Will have to look at Free Agency I reckon.

We can trade our 2018 first round pick this offseason
We've used two first round picks in the 2015-2019 block already
Rules may change in 2019 but there are no restrictions on what the club can do this coming offseason

This is what I put on the Hopper thread....
It will not very well liked & probably deleted.

If it were me trading It would be quite a handful of beans.

Future first
Smith
Breust
Shiels
Langford
Birchall
Whitecross
Dureya
Poppy
Willsmore
Stratton
Shoey
Heatherly

None of these players have to go to GWS for us to get Hopper & Whitfield.

I know we can if we part with a player aswell, if any team wants any of our fringe players etc... but Whitfield will cost us 2 first rounders, so better to hold off on trading our first round pick for 2018.

Just quickly:

Good player (Bruest example) > Whitfield & 2018 2nd.
2018 1st > Hooper.

3 for 2.

But yeah just giving saints supports the shits is funny enough regardless if we have the currency.

I'm not talking about players I'm saying our 2018 first round pick can be on the table

I'm not really interested in how we get someone at the moment just who we are targeting

I know, but there's really no point having it available at this stage unless Hawks know of someone that be interested in coming to us.
