Not according to St Kilda fans...

If Fyfe says he wants to come to your footy club you make it happen.

With 2 firsties this year + future picks they are beautifully placed.

Their list build has been very good since Bains started...
And does anyone think that St Kilda just got lucky with 2 x "firsties". They have planned for this day a long time ago and when the Hawks came knocking during Jaeger discussions....BANG....there's what they needed to get Fyfe across the line should Freo match! Obtaining our picks wasn't just a case of being opportunistic folks, they knew what their end goal was!

Maybe we gave away our pick so we have no trade assets so Freo don't bother matching our offer...

Can't say I'm sold on Hopper tbh. Sure he's built like a beast but I've been to the Giants games over the last couple of years and have found myself thinking that his disposal and decision making have been iffy. Could be an experience issue, but still don't think I'd be paying too much for him.
yep

Kelly is the best kid they have then Whitfield - the other one with talent to burn is Greene - head case yes but one who can play footy

Heard from a friend of mine who is close to the Pies, that they're in prime position to land Lever. She reckons he's bought a home in Melbourne and has expressed his desire to go there and only there.

I think that you are entirely correct that they wanted two first rounders in the 2017 draft (giving up to 3 first round picks that can be traded) to be in a good position to trade for an elite mid. It was part of the Pelchen Plan to land a star player for 2018/19. Originally I think it was more via FA, but as clubs are more clever about not letting the genuine guns become FA's, and in particular unrestricted FA's, I think however the plan has been modified to trade in a gun. That is the impression you get from what various club officials have said during interviews over the last 12 months.

However this may not be Fyfe, but perhaps rather someone more like Kelly, whose best mate also just happens to be Jack Steele. However being in a good position to trade does not in itself get a deal done. There are also still some gritted teeth amongst fans at the decision to take Paddy over Petracca on the basis that big forwards were harder to gain than mids.

Everyone is going to have a stack of money - going to make a very interesting off season!

I wonder how we will separate ourselves from the crowds, because having lots of money to throw at a player won't be enough.
Not true, some clubs already have players on large contracts (Boyd, Buddy) or have lots of really talented players requiring big pay boost that they need to re-sign (Kelly, Johannisen, Fyfe, Martin). They may or not have planned for that. And I don't think many clubs would be in the position we are which is to have:
A: had all essentials signed up
B: Offload contracted guns in 2016 to make space + Hill leaving
C: Have 3 players retiring that would be on decent money
D: Have disposable mid-tier players to trade out for extra space + trade currency

Wouldn't you say Fyfe, Martin, then Rocky being last resort as Free Agency Targets.

May being our number one trade target.

My confidence of landing a big fish like Dusty/Fyfe was high at the start of the season, however our form has me worried as can you really say we are an attractive and exciting side to join at the moment...?
