Yes, I would rather finish 9-14 and look halfway able to compete to lure potential free agents and out of contract players than finish stone cold last with our first round pick being used by St Kilda. The PSD draft pick is absolutely worthless - players who are out of contract get traded. Clubs aren't stupid enough to be the Saints with Ball and cut off their nose to spite their face. Look at the last 4-5 offseasons and you'll see that the PSD is irrelevant these days. The last 2-3 didn't even happen because clubs went straight to the rookie draft because of the delisted free agent period effectively replacing it.

Sorry, but finishing last for us this year has ZERO silver lining or benefit.
100% this.

Not entirely true, GWS having the first pick in the PSD a few years ago gave them a lot of leverage in the Mumford trade

I'd rather us win games than have a minuscule amount of 'leverage' in the offseason. Anyone wanting us to the tank for the #1 pick in a draft that hasn't occurred for 2 years is honestly insane.

Don't get him and front end other players contracts, now that's an idea.
Again - he filled needs that we had back in October. If we knew we'd get Rough back we probably would have let him go elsewhere. Back then it wasn't known if Rough would ever play again. It was a fairly risk free move to fill a gap.

Better players were available for cheaper cost though to fill the gap in that case ? What is Witts on ? or the bloke Richmond got from Sydney ?

Yeah if we didn't pick up Mitchell or Jaeger we might have been able to go after Witt's or Nankervis

Witts and Nankervis were both traded for more than we received for either Sam Mitchell or Jordan Lewis.

Vickery was free.

Where did anyone say he was the "solution"

He was free insurance as a fwd-ruck. The 500k had to be spent to hit 95% of cap.

As I said I'd rather front end other contracts that get this spud if getting to 95% of that cap played any sort of part in the reasoning to get him.

I don't get all the hate, Vickery hate, if Rough wasn't captain would his position be safe on current form? Oh but wait we could run TOB through the tall forward role he'll have that covered, oh but wait he's not knocking it out of the park either, ahh but let's call on Schoey to bring back that 2015 grand final game that we waited years for, nah when things don't work we on here with only a few exceptions just hate, maybe our recruiters understand this and understand that Vickery was capable of scraping out on average around two goals a game in a crap team, with a massive amount of backlash from his supporter base, would seem a pretty good fit at the moment.
Geez guys critique players, throw up better options, but come on posting terms such as sh!t truck and spud and basic hating on players is the way I see a SUPPORTER base going about it with a modicum of class.
No one likes the way we are playing at the moment and even when we were killing it we on here were looking to be even better but let's not have a club board looking like the main board, lurkers would be pissing themselves.
End if observation, stay classy.

Make of it what you will but heard from a reliable source fyfe will be a saint and we are heavily into rockliff, dusty and lever
Despite my earlier commentary - his personal life be damned - bring Dusty and Rockliff on board. Both would provide some toughness back into the team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rockliff lands at the Hawks. I don't see how we can get Lever though. We would have to do a trade with the Crows and with no first round pick that would rule us out of the mix.

I would like the "Unsociable Hawks" back. Those two boys would go a long way to bringing back a ruthless & relentless attitude.
I'd take any attitude at the moment...

Carey actually said something interesting during Saints v Giants;

If your not prepared to go 110% & play on the edge then you will loose more games than you win trying to be conservative. If it not in that player, don't manufacture it. (Something like that)

I don't see that fire under the jumper for anyone on our list & those who can are looking done from being up for so long.

I don't mind loosing if the other team knows in the first minute that the boys have come to play & sustain that level for 4 quarters.

Dusty & Rocky do that!

As intergrated Hawks they could have a lot of influence in driving the hunger for every minute of every game til the next premiership, similar to Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis use to do.

We have the option to trade our 2018 first rounder. That was confirmed a few weeks back. And I'm sure GW can find a few different ways to do a deal.
