I really hate this and it’s usually very obvious when a book has been padded to reach a certain size300 pages in before the bloody boy went missing and the author just wrote slabs and slabs of words that were so overly descriptive that I reckon would have added 100 + pages to the book.
I dunno, maybe 100 is an exaggeration, but there were so many pages where so many paragraphs were just line to line.I really hate this and it’s usually very obvious when a book has been padded to reach a certain size
It's worth comparing with Ronan Farrow's Catch and Kill. One of the best, and one of my favourite books I've read this year.
Never read anything by Candice Fox before, but I'll definitely be reading more of her stuff, I found this hard to put down a lot of the time.
It's about a family whose daugther went missing - beleived drowned - and the case has gone cold. So, they take matters into their own hands and take hostages in an FBI lab and threaten to destroy evidence in cases that only has one DNA sample linked to it.
It's freakin' fantastic.
5/5

This is about the #metoo scandal. It's pretty ****ed up what people got away with, and the journalistic investigation that was done to get to the bottom of things is commendable.
It's very good, but messed up, but also worth the read
4/5.

Martin O neill is good too.
Sounds interesting, I'll look for it
Have heard this is an excellent read!
I read Cry Baby by him. I found his writing so incredibly basic and almost boring. Slabs of text too which put off reading anything from him again.Reading Mark Billingham's latest, he appears to have switched from dark, macabre procedurals to cosy crime. Seems to be a lot of money in it these days.

Former stand-up comedian, so makes sense. That said, the humour in this new series tends to fall a bit flat. I went to a talk in a book shop and he said he pitched two ideas to his agent, a crime novel and a comedy book and the agent flat out told him to ditch the comedy book, said unless you're Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett, it's nigh on impossible to make money from and for humour to leap of the page the way it does on stage.Mark Billingham is a very funny guy.
Probably need to read his earlier stuff to see if you like his style, he's about 20 years into his career, the quality is declining, though I always found him fairly readable. I'm finding the same with Karin Slaughter. Stuart McBride, on the other hand, seems to be getting better.I read Cry Baby by him. I found his writing so incredibly basic and almost boring. I met him a couple of times when he was doing publicity for his first books and he seemed one of those naturally funny people.Former stand-up comedian, so makes sense. Cry Baby was a very simple and easy read, but I just found the writing overly simple, almost like it was written by a teenager.Former stand-up comedian, so makes sense.
