Brunswick West. Still close enough to Sydney Road and Lygon Street to crawl back home, but slightly more suburban than the eastern side.

Question – why, in Victoria, are suburbs called '--- North' or '---- East?' In WA you have your South Fremantle, East Fremantle but I guess that's the same convention as North Melbourne/South Melbourne/East Melbourne.

Yeah the ones with 'Melbourne' in the name are the exception, probably as they are old and established.
I guess for the others it makes sense as it keeps them together in alphabetical lists which might help when you are not sure whatever somewhat is xxxxx or xxxxxx West etc.
