Is there a player at AFL level you can see in Gould? I am worried he may end up a slow, undersized defender at AFL level. He also does not have the best agility and I am concerned he will not transition that well at AFL level.

Just in terms of height, Brisbane’s current 2nd and 3rd tall defenders are Darcy Gardiner at 193cm and Marcus Adams at 192cm.

Admittedly we have a mini hulk in our reserves who Lions fans are eagerly anticipating his debut, 197cm, 101kg Jack Payne.

Might want to watch our preseason game against Port.

Honest question - would be make it in today’s afl? Very different game now in which I think his strengths would be somewhat mitigated and weaknesses magnified.

# 16 Geelong - Miles Bergman / Sandy Dragons / 188cm / 77kg

I reckon he is chance of going a bit higher come draft note as is a high end talent. He can do some things in the pool other kids cannot and for a club like Geelong with a few selections around here I wanted to take him off the board. Capable of playing midfield but I probably see him more as a really dangerous HF / wing type who doesn't need to touch it many times to make a real difference. Vision, decision making, ability to create separation and space and ball use are all first class. His kicking is particularly good and I'd hasten to add one of the best in the pool for mine. Athletically blessed and has a great leap on him and great hands so if he can improve his consistency i think he is a first class talent.

i have Bergman ahead of Stephens. Bergman has serious talent and huge upside for mine. I have him rated a bit higher than where i #16 and hence was delighted to take him.

I rate Stephens high but there are a couple of similar types to him and hence happy to risk him.

#16 - Brisbane Lions: Trent Rivers

188cm/85kg

I’m glad that Gould was taken before my pick as it made the decision pretty easy for me after that.

Rivers is a big bodied, versatile type who has shown he can create play and drive off the back flank or play through the middle and win his own ball. He’s a nice size, runs both ways and is a very good user of the ball by foot. His ability to position himself well around the ball really stands out. It’s been somewhat of a challenging year for him in certain aspects, but it’s also set him up well for what will come soon.

I suspect he's rated, but not as highly rated as on BigFooty. I think he goes in the 18-25 range.

I do think there is some Shannon Hurn in him, or later years Luke Hodge and Heath Shaw. I'm not so worried about his speed or agility, because I think he plays different than he tests. His power gives him the speed burst to succeed. It's just a matter of what role teams see for him. I hope he doesn't get pigeon holed as a third tall. I think he'd be best considered as a medium rebounding defender, and someone to line up on the likes of DeGoey or Fyfe.

it was he or Rivers. Took Bergman first betting one of those two would be there for the next. I think I will end up rating Rivers a touch higher. No blindspots on him.

Pick 20 - Port Adelaide

Josh Worrell - 195cm/83kg

Gotta go best available here. I thought he might have gone by now. Jeremy Sharp and Elijah Taylor very close.

Key position prospect who can play adequately at either end of the ground. Impressed as a key defender for Sandringham during the year, but was able to move forward for Vic Metro and have a huge impact, kicking 7 goals for the Championships, including 4 from a wing against WA. Can look a bit laconic and needs to improve his consistency in game, but the x-factor, the skill and the match winning ability is there for all to see.

Where does he play his best footy? It's a tough one to say. Personally I see him playing through the middle a bit along the lines of a Justin Westhoff, and that is the player who Worrell will replace at Port Adelaide. I prefer him either up forward or through the midfield as opposed to down back. He attacks the ball better, his marking is a highlight and he is a good kick for goal. Worrell will add some much needed versatility to Port Adelaides line up and with McAsey as well, helps to sure up the KPP stocks.
