Really happy for Setanta. For somereason I really want to see him make it.

I still want to see him rebound off the opposition CHF but his form up forward makes it unlikely to happen in the near future.

I was pleasantly surprised by Setanta's marking in the first quarter. To cement his spot in the team, he really needs to take 5-10 marks every week. i.e. he must do more than just as an angry combatant when the ball hits the deck.

Those comparing him to Earl Spalding really must have forgotten how good Earl was from 1993-1996. He had a fantastic presence and could kick goals off both feet. Setanta simply isn't worthy of such comparisons, yet.

What to do about Brendan? It's not the first time he's maimed a teammate. I remember Lance Whitnall suffering a season ending injury after being poleaxed by Fevola. Yes we have a serious shortage of forward talent but Fev also needs to back his teammates. Setanta could provide useful decoy in the short term provided we train Betts, Garlett and Yarran to sweep on any crumbs.

I'm still not sold on Setanta as a long term option. That said, he's been getting better each week & has done enough to earn a 1-year contract ahead of Fisher, Cloke, Hartlett and Edwards. But I'll leave serious list management to another thread.

Fisher too.

Setanta was brilliant last night, had a brain explosion where he missed a goal on a snap without settling himself but he was good, even though some big F-wit smashed him in the back to stop his momentum instead of screaning for him, and did it more than once.
If Jammo jumped over the mark the way their defender did after Setanta took the mark it would have been 50m without question. ****ing umpires!

With all these injuries Fev has caused to teammates and opposition players alike, we just might have to start putting up some witches hats and a sign, "Fev coming through". :o

It was a big pity Fev cained him, I was really liking Setants game until then.
Regardless, I'm enjoying the signs he's showing. Well hell, not just signs, he is actually having an impact. Keep playing him there, he's gonna get pretty damn useful the more experience he gets.

Er, spot on like a wedding dress in a muddy puddle. :thumbsu:

Setanta showed the kids his bruised back today at the clinic - fair dinkum he has this ugly black and purple bruise over most of his lower back.

It must have been agony.

Carlos took a few marks, but the Bombers had NLM on him.

Fev was fighting against three players, so Carlos was in a stack of one on one contests on a smaller opponent. Essendon didn't show him any respect and played a HBF on him like they did with NLM on Deluca.

Did Carlos show any more than Deluca when he kicked three goals on NLM?

No.
Has done enough to warrant himself a new contract IMHO ...

It is amazing how so many other posters wanted him gone after Cloke-Gate, this is a really inspirational and great story of how carlos has managed to put all the crap behind him, has really disciplined himself and worked his arse off, controlled his firey Irish Temper, and is now a solid starting 18 player.

If everyone in the side played with the same passion and intensity that Carlos does week in, week out, we would never lose a game.

He's got something that sadly a lot of our senior players are missing right now, and that is called TICKER ...
Yet you criticise the supporters who are looking forward to the return of Walker who will add depth, versatility, pace, aggression and ticker to our team.

Tripper...

What's the deal with your constant love for Andrew Walker, are you two lovers or something ???

Walker is overrated, and out of his 81 games, has played many more ordinary/average games then standout ones ...

Bloody oath, if you think Walker is going to come back into this side, and make a world of difference, that proves that you only rate a footballer on his potential and ability, but not the actual results he has actually produced out on the field. He is a chronic underachiver at this club, despite what apologists like you think.

And puh-lease, Andrew Walker showing 'aggression' out on the field, come off it, his lack of tenacity is one of his biggest short comings.

And Carlos isn't a world beater, but he does deserve a contract extension.

I think a re-toast is in order. Gotta love the "stutter"!

Setanta you bloody legend, that guy is the F-ING man.
Was great seeing him get into the Wooly Woofter Grover, and was even better seeing him stutter on his way to goal.
GO THE STUTTER.

:thumbsu:

Without him we would not have won (to state the obvious). It would be the old "try to pass to Fev while he's getting scragged by 2 or 3 opposition players and watch the ball get rebounded", which still happened a bit as we are very Fev focussed, but Irish was up there as that extra important target.

Well done Setanta, I have a lot of manlove for you right now.

P.S Whoever that commentator was (Jako?) who kept calling him "Santana"...that was annoying!
