I figure he'll improve, particularly in terms of ball winning ability, endurance and clean hands. It just doesn't happen instantly nor should it. Woosha wasn't really interested about developing Darlings game while Simpson takes a different attitude and clearly sees McGovern as the better marking player and he's right. Bringing McGovern in has meant a lot less ball has been directed at Darling, which means he's got to find other ways of getting it. But that should be seen as a positive for the team as a whole, as he's too competitive to be stamped out of contests when given opportunities.

Other than the one week that we brought Sinclair in, McGovern wasn't really ever fit for AFL when Woosha was the coach.

is a forward, should be played as a forward

one of many players that have regressed under simspon's tutelage
One of his great skills is his running ability and we need to capitalise on this.
He is not a midfielder as he does not have the one touch grab required but I believe he is worth a try down back.
His run out of defence could really hurt opposition teams.

Kid is going to be a superstar no doubt about that, but shit he needs to stop playing for free kicks he's getting into a really bad habit of playing for a free instead of trying to win the contest.

if we plan on tanking for the rest of the year (which we probably are, but will never admit to), then yes darling should play down back. so should kennedy and lecras. and cripps should play as our lone ruckman.

Definite confidence issue in the middle, he really should be playing in our forward 50. Just goes to show how desperate we are for talent in the midfield

He is struggling to get separation on his opponent which to me makes me think he isn't working hard enough (or he is buggered). He is not slow and should be able to get clear more. I also can't remember seeing his constant pressure and chasing of defenders which has been a trademark of his. Maybe this is due to his time in the middle? It is wearing him out and when he is forward he is not fresh enough.

Yeah on the weekend it was so embarrassing when he was in a bit of push and shove with someone and he threw his head back when pushed in the chest.

Made me cringe.

The post actually references Darling, in spite of Sinclairs inclusion Darlings role didn't change. But in that circumstance Woosha made the wrong call.

I never understand people that say "Don't play players that aren't fit". Every player playing on the field on the weekend isn't at 100% by this time of year. They all have some niggling injury. It's just how football is. It's just up to the medical staff to work out exactly how far from 100% a player is and it's long term impact if they play.

Should we not play Lecras because his arm isn't 100%?

Should Kerr not have played in the 2006 grand final because of a foot injury? (in before we are hardly playing a grand final)

etc

etc

I'm not having a go at you personally, it's just I hear it so much from multiple people it drives me insane.

Shit I can't play this weekend I got a paper-cut.

I'm talking about within reason - if you can't compete and show signs of an injury impacting your performance then you aren't fully fit and that's what I'm talking about :)

Isn't Kennedy's form a much bigger issue?
Outside of two good games Kennedy has been woeful this year and should face more criticism that Darling who at least had a decent start to the year.

Would've thought so, as a leader of the club he needs to close the gap between his best and worst games.

Some weeks everything he touches turns to gold and other weeks he fumbles and overruns the ball everytime he gets near it.

As for Darling..i'm not too worried. With his talent and work rate he'll figure it out..i'd be very surprised if he doesn't have an extremely good career from here on.

Yes the post references Darling and commends Simpson on how he is using him in a variety of role cf Woosha. My point is that Woosh didn't have the flexibility that Simo now has given Gov now being capable of AFL. Woosh may have seen Gov as a superior marking option too, he obviously saw something to persist with him on the list.

But Simmo didn't wait around for McGovern... Darling was used differently from day one.

I reckon the darling move to the midfield has been a disaster - hes never been a one touch player thats required as amid and playing there has sapped his confidence

Was a mistake and its time to put it to bed - hes too small to be a kpp as well so thats two myths put to bed - can we not resurrect them.

Hhf ftw - playing high up on the wing as the ball goes i to the oppositions fwd fifty - waitingfor the the big kick out of defence.

If he isn't it's a joke that coaches continue to pick players who aren't fully fit.

Kennedy and McGovern are playing anyway, so no need to play him if he isn't right

Selwood played on a bum ankle since Round 3 and finally elected to go for surgery two weeks ago, it's possible that he isn't right but are still giving him games

Wasnt the word on the street that JK's groins are shot?
