first bolded bit -> wow, thank you genius.

second bolded bit -> not really. being an all rounder suggests ability. darling is not an all rounder when it comes to midfield. someone like Pavlich is an all rounder in football terms.

'worth a try' indicates coaches don't know what they are doing. just because fans don't know how someone 'will go' playing in a separate position, doesn't mean coaches don't. do they all sit around and play with themselves all the time? pretty sure they have a very good idea who can do what, when and how. but everyone likes the hope. even if misplaced. and now we are where we are.

we need to wait until we draft proper midfielders to improve. everything else is really desperation which leads nowhere.
How do you know? Can't judge based on a handful of games.

I don't think that was the case until freo tried him in a number of different positions. I am pretty sure he was drafted as kpp. You seem to have completely ignored my posts about Watson and Mundy. You could well be right that Darling isn't going to be a good midfielder, but I don't think we can judge that over one or two games, needs to be given a real go over an extended period of time.

Not like moving him out of the forward line is going to cost us any games let along important ones. I really think it's worth a shot

Didn't realise we could draft players mid season. So we shouldn't try anything different during the year because we have recruited players to play certain positions. Someone better let hawthorn know that Hodge was recruited as a midfielder and should only be played there. In fact Burgoyne started of as a forward pocket, what the hell is he doing in the midfield. Essendon should throw Watson back to full forward because that's where he was recruited to play

Watched those players. They all had clean hands - as is required as a mid

As darling hasn't

Observation of him displaying his innate abilities. Irrespective of position you can rule him out as an on ball player until he fixes his disposal by hand. Which at 21/22 years of age, pretty much means forever.

He's not playing clean, one touch football up in the forward line. Why would anyone want him to bring that performance to the midfield? So he can deliver the same performance in there where its most important to have clean hands?

Inb4 - "Probably so he can fit right in with our other mids"

He's a roaming high HFF, that's where he needs to stay

of course we can, he is terrible with his hands. mundy or watson aren't. you also trying to name 2 players out of thousands. i don't see the norm where KP players convert to midfield and pretty sure both of those showed those attributes first in training. i don't think they all just jumbled names around and went to 'see what happens'. well we see what darling in midfield results in.

no point 'trying' anything if its not going to work. you play with best with what you have. jumbling players around for hell of it only destabilises the team, makes players confused and they don't progress in areas that they are good at because they are forced to be something they aren't. only time our issues will be fixed are at end of season. its probably insulting to midfielders to suggest a player can just come in and do the job.

Can a successful team have HFs that don't rotate on the ball these days?

What not defence

He tackles well ...he then doesn't have to be accurate by foot

As Wayne Carey would say you don't have to be as skilled to be a defender...just punch it

I like jack darling ....his endeavour and effort can't be faulted

I think sometimes he's a bit amped up ...yes amped up and goes at the ball with hard hands .....

I have thought long and hard that he might be good trade value but I'm not sure as he's a club favourite

He's only 22 and surrounded by inadequacy right now..theres NO WAY I'd look to trade him..he's one of the core we need to build around and develop properly, which is our biggest problem right now..getting the best out of our truly good players. We can't just get rid of them all and start again..we have to figure out where we are going so wrong, why our skills are so bad and our heads hung low as soon as the pressure is on, we need to fix the team and yes get rid of some obvious passengers but not trade our future away for instant knee jerk gratification.

learning and developing as a mid - give him time - if nothing else it will make him a better HFF which is his position

Agree

I think we have what six games left or something ........try him in some different spots

He could just be a simple utility player....Adam hunter type ...I'm surprised he hasn't ben tried in defence though

The issue with jack is that he stormed the competition as 18 years bull at a gate and we thought geez he's going to be the next Wayne Carey ....he stagnated because he has decencies in his game that haven't been well identified by our coaching staff

And I general I se that a lit with our team, and I'm not blaming Simpson, I'm actually blaming our former assistants who simply don't make our players improve ......

That's how he slid to us in the first place isn't it?

Hes a natural high HF, not sure we would want him down back when we have some very talented runners off HB. But the team is a shambles so happy with Simmo rotating players wherever.
There's nothing wrong with a few minutes here and there, it teaches players different things is all I'm saying

I'm a jack fan and I think he's a guy that will be at his best at 24-25 until he's close to 30
