Thats bullshit he and Mcgovern started together, Degoey had ample time to get there and compete same as mcgovern if he put in the effort ie sprinted. He slow jogged then tried to hang out the back for the cheap kick.

Even with his snails pace he was within 5m of the mark...

It would have been the spoil of the century if De Goey stopped that. No chance to mark.

I haven't seen that angle before. Judging by various comments on this board and Degoey's proximity to the contest after the mark was taken. I was under the impression that Degoey made the decision to stay down.

But no, his heinous game costing crime is the same thing that has occured in just about every contest MacGovern has had with every forward over the last 2 years - Macgovern simply read the ball drop quicker than his opponent thus got there quicker.

He still had a yard on him. De Goey is good but not that good to ride over the top of 2 players. There wasn't much he could do, not even fist so yeah he just stayed down.

Not even. You are cooked if you think he couldn't compete with Mcgovern there, didnt have to mark just compete stop Mcgovern basically taken uncontested mark.

I cant believe you think that if Degoey tried he didn't have enough time to make that contest? Really?, really?
He slow jogged not even ran and still got within a few meters. When Mcgovern started the run he was within arms reach of Degoey and even he only ran over wasn't at top pace to get there.
Only a pie supporter looking for an excuse for his favourite player would see it that way, and btw Degoey is one of my favourites (think he is a beast generally) but that effort or lack there of was abysmal and costly.

He just flat out didnt go hard enough to try compete put his body in disrupt his opponent , try spoil etc, Mcgovern himself didn't get out of 2nd gear approaching the mark the much quicker Degoey could of easily closed that gap.

Probably could have shown a tad more desperation in the dying moments of a tight Grand Final I'll give you that but he simply stayed down, if McGovern drops it De Goey kicks the sealer and is a hero forever...

If you were a betting man would you think Mcgovern (afl intercept king and hands like a vice) with a free run up with 2 players wrestling for a high ball would drop that mark?

He didnt go hard from outset so to say he made a last second judgement call is wrong from the outset he put in a half (that's generous) effort to follow.

I still don't think he could have got there, but he could have gone hard and crashed Macgovern after the mark like a defender would have done and thus stopped him from playing on, but will you view it the same way the next time his opponent flies, gets a hand on it, and Degoey stays down and kicks a roving goal? Split second judgement call. He went the attacking option rather than the defensive option - that's all.

It would have been a Herculean spoil so safe to say he just judged that he couldn't impact the contest so elected to stay down which didn't work out.

Probably should have had more spring in his step to get there though and keep McGovern accountable but noone's perfect. It just happened to kill us in a Grand Final that's why you're so cut up about it. To get there he'd have to outleap McGovern from behind which I've never seen anyone do.

Disagree, if he pushed hard got close and then stayed down I would agree that he took a gamble and didnt work. But from the outset he lumbered with minimal effort.

I said front on push. Where is the guy at the front looking and what is he doing when the ball lands?
Sensational mark, I love the way that Jezza plays footy. I wouldn't have paid the Rioli/Maynard Sheed blocking one, but that should have been a free to Mihocek

Ya kidding right? There was no push there. He was in a wrestle, the ball was kicked too high and had hang time (which is why Mcgovern had so much time and Degoey). Mihocek turned and jumped up to go the ball and Mcgovern came in from behind to crunch him with a knee. That simple.

Are you guys trolling this or got on ya black and white glasses ready for the dogs here?

So you think between the ages of 14 and 18 he wont grow much taller then he was at 14 in this photo? Josh is 178cm here and Nick is close in height Peter is 184cm.

Taken in August 2017. I’d be shocked if Nick isn’t taller than Peter by now, and he should have at least 1-2 years growth left in him.

Disagree, in what looked like being a one on one, the ball was kicked slightly to Mihocek's advantage, he won the jostle for position very early. His man turned his back completely on the ball, grappled and as Mihocek was about to rise for the mark he pushed Mihocek with his back completely to the ball in a bid to stop him from marking it. Blatant free in my book.

What games this in? certainly not the GF.

A Daicos key forward would be weird.

He's killing them still. This in response to a question on Nick.

Macgovern isn't even close to the frame when the Eagles guy has his back to the ball in a front on grapple.

They are BOTH wrestling and further they are side on both facing the fence. The ball hangs for an eternity. Your other picture even shows how far under the ball they are Mcgovern marks up high way above Mihoceks outstretched arm...

Because Mihocek was illegally stopped from jumping. Jezza still would have marked it, but that's irrelevant, once you turn your back to the ball you cant interfere with a bloke going for the mark. Even if ut began with a legitimate wrestle.

Move on guys, we lost.

My theory is that if you re-watch an event a million times the event changes.

When my theory is proven correct, you'll be thanking me and celebrating a magnificent victory where Mihocek gets a free and then quickly gets it over the top to Degoey who has wisely stayed down and gotten clear from the Gov.
