List Mgmt. Big key forward

I would make an offer to Naughton.. watched him a couple of times this yr.. f loved what I've seen. One hell of a competitor and super brave. This bloke would run over hot coles to get to the pill and would risk everything in a marking constest.

Moore and Naughton in the same side.

Make it happen Collingwood.. before the bloke gets inundated with offers.

Be brave and just f get him long term.

Luckily for him many defenders were also sub 190cm (ie Pert 189cm, Martin 190cm) so it was irrelevant his height really.
The height difference between him and the average kpd of his time was similar to the height difference between Degoey and the average kpd now.

I think Cox and Mihocek are doing fine. Elliot plays taller, so too De Goey. Would like an 18 year old KPF developing as we speak though.

The salary cap is already tight. No doubt the next deals for De Goey, Grundy, Moore, Stephenson will be bigger. I'd rather keep them as they form a young and solid spine than risk losing one or two for a big name forward like Camoron.

And there are plenty of young forwards who can be got cheap still. Todd Marshall, Toby Wooler, Jarrod Brander... all from Victoria and can perhaps be lured back before they develop further and cost more $$$

As their wages increase over the next 3-4 years, Wells (34), Pendles (31), Goldsack (31), Dunn (31), Varcoe (30), Greenwood (30), Beams (29), B.Reid (29), Sidebum (28), Howe (28), Cox (28), Roughead (28) etc will either be gone (retired) or decreased.

you would almost say that one of Goldsack and Dunn will be gone and one of Varcoe and greenwood. and wells. plus you missed Mayne's inflated contract.. .allthough on his recent form maybe we are paying unders lol :P

A lot of good judges (knightmare, twomey) loved naughton and we did too
Had to go stepho
Would have been great to have a extra pick

*Firstly I want to reiterate (so we dont have people coming in and taking things out of context ) that this was in response to that Degoey like a Ablett (or FF of yore) could become a consistent 10 year (Coleman medallist volume) FF lynch pin.

Minus the flooding tactics of modern footy and 3rd man in team play. Ablett played in an area of space and 1v1s. Abletts KPP defenders ranged from 185cm - 194cm (jackovich) in height. Mostly played on KPP around 3-5cm height on him.

Degoey is 188cm on official site and his potential defenders range from 190cm-201cm (talls). Majority of KPP 196-199cm. 8-11cm. I wider variety of heights available to coaches now than then. (Since this is limited to KPD rather then medium defenders who also play on him).

So lets have a look at some kpp not including our own (D.Moore 203cm, J.Roughead 200cm, Dunn 192cm).

I did miss Mayne (30) he will be another gone in 3 years or less. So that's what 13 players either gone or on lower end contracts.

if Cox kicks 2 a game, which he is easily capable of, he is well and truly paying his way. kicking goals is only part of his role.

the ball needs to moved quicker, especially against WCE who have a the best intercept marker in the game.

we are also yet to sort out the centre clearance work and take advantage of 6/6/6.

the other issue is the different set up in the F50 this year. Elliot is a different type of forward to stepho or whe.

JDG isn't going to clunk too many high balls to the hot spot, becasue he's just not tall enough, I can't remember him taking a single one last year, but the reality is no-one in the league clunks many. Cox is super frustrating because he gets clear hands on so many but spills them, but the blokes like Lynch who clunk a good percentage aren't as tall and don't get a clear chunk of many marks in that situation. If you pay top dollar for somebody like Lynch, to improve in terms of high balls, you might if you're very lucky get an extra half a goal a game from marks and frees in the hot spot, and very slightly less looks at ground balls from that situation.

For all other entries other than long bombs to a congested hot spot, where I think Cox does as well as most guys running around, give me Degoey over any other forward in the league at the moment.

Has JDG shrunk over the offseason? I’m sure he was listed at 191cm last year.

Lads if we could get Naughton that would be great........He is some info on him......WA lad, mad, mad Collingwood supporter was dying for the pies to draft him that much that he told both WA clubs he didnt want to be drafted by either them wanted to go to Victoria to play for the pies.......What did we do we overlooked him and the bulldogs pounced. He was drafted as key defender but as its worked out he can play forward as well.
Get him Pies !!!!

Yes, 191cm last year. It seems it's not just Tohill who got ripped off this year with the "official measurements"!!

Edit: Broomhead is the one other player I can see (who was on the list last year) who has had his height altered, going from 185 to 182 cm. That one may be closer to the real mark.

Thank you, 35.
Be tough for us to get him I'd reckon, his family is from Ocean Grove I believe.
We might have get Taylor Adams to extol the virtues of playing for us instead of the Cats.

This is from the AFL website article: Wilson used Geelong's training facilities last year ahead of the NBL season with his girlfriend's family owning a house in nearby Ocean Grove.
From the Fox Sports one: Wilson had been linked to Geelong for some time, because he was often seen using their training facilities, but the reality of the Melbourne-native actually making the switch to the AFL only manifested after his last stint with the Kings.

Exactly....all of it

A genuine duo KPF set up would make Mcgovern much more accountable, so of course it would help.

I also believe a better CHF option would help us transition the ball more effectively.

People who believe a small forward line is a long term option need to look at history, most teams who have a similar set up pinch a flag on occasion but rarely back it up or have sustained success.

Degoey is great but he does lack certain things in his game compared with a genuine tall option. Also he cant be the only consistently dangerous fwd down there and atm he is.

Its like arguing that Geelong in 2011 didn't need Hawkins because they had S.Johnson.

Yeah, of course we’d take a KPF if it didn’t cost anything, but my point was they’re very expensive both in terms of salary cap space and what needs to be traded. And would we pay that price?

I’m sure everybody would clamour to unload JT, Wells, Reid and Varcoe in exchange for Jeremy Cameron ... but that’s not realistic.

Would you trade Grundy and Crisp for Jeremy Cameron?

Or maybe DeGoey, Sidebottom and Philips?

What about Stephenson, Maynard and Moore?

Which of those deals would you do?

As their wages increase over the next 3-4 years, Wells (34), Pendles (31), Goldsack (31), Dunn (31), Varcoe (30), Greenwood (30), Beams (29), B.Reid (29), Sidebum (28), Howe (28), Cox (28), Roughead (28) etc will either be gone (retired) or decreased.

See what you're saying but Goldsack, Dunn, Reid, Wells, (this year), varcoe, Roughead, Greenwood are all players on much smaller deals than what they previously were. Yet even so the cap is tight.

And the unlike many of the names above, the likes of Pendles, Sibebottom, Beams, are likely to play for 3-4 more years on good coin as they remain exceptional players. And we will still have pricey Treloar and Adams on the books.

I don't see where the future significant relief in salary cap will come from. For their next deal De Goey and Grundy could justly demand million dollar per season deals ... surpassing the savings made by losing a few older players along the way

What makes you think that those are the types of deals that would land Cameron? Grundy is arguably the most valuable player in the league but you’re adding Crisp? JDG (AA squad) Sidey AA and Phillips? I understand you’d probably have to pay over the odds to get Cameron a year earlier than he goes FA, but those deals seem ludicrously skewed.

Package him up with Richards and it's a done deal. Ginger Richards is a gun with exceptional skills. Give them just about anything for these two.

Aish, JT and Murray should get it done.
