I'd say thats decent news. We need one ruckman for now and one ruckman for the future. Get the ruckman for now in the PSD (bryan) and the ruckman for the future (Hampson, Renouf, Tippett) with pick 28 or 10 if we have to.

As for mature age ruckmen, I'd go Bryan long before Keating and that 209cm WAFL player and if we could get him committed to his footy and in his 2005 form I could see him take the mantle as our number 2 ruckman.

FWIW he wouldn't be the worst.

He's pretty mobile, kicks the ball as far as Rocca can, and is strong with a good leap.

He's got more value than Cain Ackland does IMHO.

Everything you say is true but unfortunately he has a bad attitude holding him back which is unfortunate. If he does indeed leave Carlton i wish him the best and hope you guys or someone else can really get into him, he could be alot more than he currently is!

players like this with attitude problems need a reality check, that is where coaches come in under player managment. so if the pies can get him in the right mind set then all should be good

I'm led to believe that the "attitude problem" was a clash with the VFL coach for the Bullants, Barry Mitchell, and given that he tried to stage a coup and take over from Denis Pagan, I don't know that Mitchell's necessarily the sort of sound character that it is altogether BAD to clash with.

I kind of like the idea of getting someone who didn't get along with the people at Carlton - Neither do we...

At 197cms, why would he be any more effective than say Travis in the ruck?

Does he have some sort of whizz-bang leap on him?

Obviously mature age.

Do we think he'll last until our pick (PSD10 or slightly less) and if he doesn't, then what sort of dregs will we be picking up then??

Don't bother picking up Bryan if you plan to play him in the ruck.
We plan to not play him at all - He's insurance in case Josh Fraser or Guy Richards goes down.

And in the event that he's covering for someone who's injured, we're not really concerned if he's an adequate ruckman or not - Just that he has a big body and can spend time there so that Travis Cloke and Anthony Rocca don't have to.

I get the feeling Malthouse will like him, as he often likes to drop ruckmen back, and with Bryan's kicking he could be useful as a spare man in defense.

get keating.... I suppose the only reason we are considering him is that he is 24 and not carrying an injury. But at 197 cm can he match it with the likes of the bigger stronger rucks like cox and sandilands ,me thinks not. That's why for a year or two i'd take my chances with keating who has the experience and big body to match it with these types of guys. It's unusual you know we read in the papers that keating met with the pies physical went well had a good chat with the powers to be and everything looked rosy then we hear that he didn't pass the physical. Is it really that or the fact that he is ok but the pies are worried that he is 30 which goes aginst them pick up an older player.A fit 30 year old keating is better than a fit 24 year old bryan me thinks.

^^^ There's an example of trolling for you...

Care to elaborate as to why it is a totally inaccurate statement.

I mean, if you were able to dismiss it so quickly, than surely it must be easy to give us reasons that Cain Ackland has so much more value than Chris Bryan.

I mean, most would agree with you, but it's a highly subjective matter anyway...

more value than cain, bull******** mate:)

lolololol

Yes well I can't really say I was hoping for someone that averaged 10.7 hit outs a game for the past season - from 19 games as well - so he had plenty of opportunities, to be pulling on the black and white.

That also makes him the # 30th ranked ruckman on average of hit outs for the season.

Some of his esteemed peers above him are Robert Campbell, Michael Warren, Mark Blake, Stephen Doyle, Michael Rix and GUY RICHARDS.

Bryan is younger, and is more versatile, Ackland has been in the AFL system since 2000, and has offered absolutely f*ck all.

Remember all the talk about St.Kilda never winning a flag without a ruckman....Ackland was their ruckman!

i clicked the link and i now need a shower
First time for everything. ;)

Bryan is right to chase two years but he's a tool for saying he's leaving for more senior opportunities given he only had Ackland, Mclaren and Aisake for competition. He isn't that good a ruckman but a stack of Bluesfans have said he's lazy and doesn't prepare himself very well for games.

But he's a better player to have as the forty second on your list than Hall, Fanning or C.Cloke.

Bryan couldn't get a game ahead of Mclaren. ;)

Kudos if you pick him up. He could be a very good player. Has a HUGE kick and is a talented boy. Has discipline, attitude and comitment problems though.
