On the Essendon Football Club forum, there is a big rumour about a possible trade. It is probably bullsh*t, but it makes for good reading, and has some believability about it.

It goes something like this:

1. Three Essendon players to go to St.Kilda.

2. Everitt, and possibly a low draft pick to Carlton.

3. Matthew Allan to Essendon.

What do you think? It depends on "who" the Essendon players are of course as to whether it would work, but Essendon certainly needs a ruckman, with Barnes' retirement imminent. It also give Carlton a goal-kicking ruckman, something which they currently lack.

For Essendon to get Allan, they'd have to give up Solomon, Lucas & Moorcroft.

Well, considering that the Essendon and Carlton's brainstrusts will be spending their time planning for the finals and trying to keep their players minds on the job of trying to win the premiership, I doubt very much that anyone apart from the player agents will be talking about possible trade scenarios.

Well, two All Australian ruckmen moving would have to be a considerable 'deal' behind it to get it going i would imagine.

The scenario thrown up sounds plausible enough (Allan being squeezed out for Porter and Everitt), Blues salary cap would hardly be affected and as said, they get a goal kicking ruckman.

But the interesting thing (imho) is what would the Saints get out of it. They do need players, yet giving up there best (only?) ruck?

Who would actually ruck for them? Capuano??? Surely not, even the Saints wouldnt be that silly to have him as their sole ruck. If the trade were to go ahead, would the Bombers give up (and this i could see) Allessio as part of the '3' players? Saints rucks (they would probably think, get covered. Bombers free up some salary space and get an Ruck/follower in the mould of Barnes (Allan not quite as mobile but a better pure ruck).

Makes for interesting speculation anyway!

I don't see why Carlton get Everitt plus a low draft pick!?

Despite the obvious talent of Matty Allen, he is injury prone and is not much younger than Spider. I would actually choose Everitt over Allen anyway, as I think at a better club, the superior culture would see him lose his so called "attitude" problem.

Grendel, you are assuming that St Kilda have a choice in keeping Spider. Despite the fact he has a two year contract, I don't believe they do.

I think Collingwood's main targets will be Peter Everitt, Dean Soloman and Heath Black. The most important one out of those three is Spider. Collingwood need a ruck more than anyone else.

Everitt will be wearing black and white next year.

What a load of bull****.... Everitt is not going anywhere... even if it was a chance, St kilda would have to get a -GOOD- younger ruckman etc..

Good Rumour although I dont know how Essendon or carlton can be trading big when their salary cap is at busting point. Everitt is on half a mill, allan wouldnt be far away from that..I also dont see carlton giving away Allan to fix Essendons ruck problem.
The idea of Everitt going to Collingwood sounds more on the money.
I'd be happy if someone would take calthorpe, we dont want anything for him and we would make sure he was fed before you took delivery.....

Go Roos

I've heard this rumour...and i must say that i don't like it (on Essendon's part). In an ideal world...it would be good not to lose any quality players...and i guess this can't be ruled out. Hopeful David Hille can be fast-tracked into senior footy, as he is the future of the EFC in my opinion.

Essendon's trades, more often than not, have worked out to be positive. They're wise when it comes to trading, and next year i would expect the majority of our side to remain intact.

Everitt is a certainty to come to Collingwood with Loewe retired and Hall leaving of course they will need a forward we will give them Rocca and someone else for Everitt plus will give Everitt heaps.

What do you rate the chances are of Hardwick leaving Essendon i think its very high Hardwick will get a good price at Saints, Collingwood, Port, Kangaroos, and the Crows.

Imagine if he joined the Roos him and Pickett very frieghtning indeed.

have discussed this with friends for a while now. we agree that we would be prepared to give lucas, solomon and bolton for peter everitt. we don't have to keep a full list. we can play with two players short if the salary cap is an issue (what do you think roo man Mr Easy?)

problem is essendon supporters get a little precious about losing anyone. ask most of them and they would not be prepared to lose some quality to gain some quality.

essendon may or may not win a flag this year. unless we capitalise in the very near future, then our run of so-called success will end. if we don't grab 2 more flags within 3 years (this year included) then we have not achieved that much.

that's why we need everitt. even if it were only for 2 years. we need to make something happen immediately. let hille grow and learn, but don't rely on him to win us two flags.

WOW!!!

3 Essendon players for Everitt!!!

You don't even have to name the players, just give us 3 players on your list. If they come from Essendon, I'm sure they'll be great!

Peter Everitt is not tradeable unless it is on OUR terms. He is contracted for another TWO years. The ball is in our court.

FIGJAM,

I'm surprised you're one of the only people to see his worth. He's a 203 centremetre excellent tap ruckman with excellent mobility and a proven goal kicker However I think you're wrong that we have no choice. Of course if Spider genuinely wants to leave then it will be in the clubs best interest to arrange a suitable trade. The last thing you want on your list is a disenchanted player. Yet I would think we would do our upmost to keep him. And even if he did want to leave, the club still have the option of not organising a trade at all, ala Wayne Campbell.

He'll be in the black and white next year, along with the red (or yellow on occasions ;))
