On a related topic, I'm feeling like there's some kudos owed to Big Ant for the surprising amount of tactical depth in this game. Off the top of my head, you can stack your midfield with pace, which can be countered with bumping , which can be countered with sagging off the play, which can be countered with play along the boundaries, which can be countered... It's almost like real footy, where every couple of seasons a new tactic comes along that counters the previously dominant one.
Granted I never played it to the same extent, but I never noticed the same level of instantaneous, decision-making based tactics in FIFA 11. Probably says a lot about the flexibility and variety inherent in our great game, which Big Ant have captured exceedingly well for a first attempt.
Definitely agree. Can't name the amount of times I have had to change up or alter my gameplan based on what has either beaten me or just what I find useful that the opposition have put in place. Same goes for changing it up on the fly to adapt to someone's gameplan during a game (often due to custom teams).

FIFA 11 definitely didn't/doesn't have that form of tactical depth. However FIFA 2010 World Cup did, my god that was an amazing game. I could play wide or straight through the middle. Rely on long balls, or precision passing. Or play a mix of both.

In allowing for a more precise form of passing (which isn't necessarily a terrible thing to do) they ruined how much tactical depth there was in the game.
Also, for those who have completed all their matches (or if you think the results are fate accompli), can you send your club Best and Fairest results to bigfootybrownlow@iinet.net.au? Basically name your B&F winner and first two runner ups as you see fit (use your brownlow votes if you wish, or use your judgement).

HBK is the only one who has done it so far (PM'd me). If you can, HBK, can u send the email and I'll store it?
Will do.:)

FT: 10.8.68 - 11.4.70

Geelong: Mooney - 3, Bartel - 3, Chapman - 2, Johnson - 1, Ling - 1, Podsiadly - 1.

Close game the whole way through, in the end Geelong were too good. Inaccuracy cost me in the end.

Two games done against Scooty. Felt like I was figthing a steep uphill battle for the whole 2 games. Aside from the Sandilands domination (Sandilands ensuring clearances -> Pavlich at CHF is devastating, and worth a few free goals a game I'm sure), it was one of those things that I'm sure we can all relate to with this game; things just not going your way. On to the results:

Round 4 - Adelaide (Mahama) vs Fremantle (Scootyb)

Adelaide: 1.0 6.0 10.1 11.2 (68)
Fremantle: 5.2 9.4 12.4 14.6 (90)

Goals
Adelaide: Knights 5, van Berlo 2, Dangerfield 2
Fremantle: Mayne 3, Sandilands 2, Morabito 2

Disposals
Adelaide: Johncock 9, Walker 7, Knights 7
Fremantle: Palmer 11, Sandilands 11, Mayne 10

While the second half was dead even, the first half absolutely killed me. As mentioned above, seemed like one of those games; numerous times Scooty went inside 50 with either a long bomb or a quick snap kick, and hit a teammate on the chest for a contested mark, with the defender either well behind or in front of his opponent. Evened up after that, but the damage was done.
Will say good on Scooty for your sportsmanship in this one; he accidentally tackled Knights after he had taken a mark just before the end of the 3rd quarter, and then play on was called (seriously, what's up with this?), but allowed me to take my kick afterwards and score the goal anyway. Cheers!

Round 23 - Adelaide (Mahama) vs Fremantle (Scootyb)

Adelaide: 1.0 3.1 3.2 6.2 (38)
Fremantle: 3.2 3.3 9.4 11.6 (72)

Goals
Adelaide: Tippet 2, Porplyzia 1, Moran 1
Fremantle: Pavlich 7, Mayne 2, Anthony 1

Disposals
Adelaide: Thompson 14, Sloane 10, Tambling 9
Fremantle: Pavlich 15, Crowley 11, Sandilands 10

This time it was the 3rd quarter that did it. Went in to the 2nd half only 2 points down, but Scooty managed to get two free goals from centre breaks right at the start for a massive boost in momentum, and it was pretty well done and dusted from there. I believe I'm right in assuming that momentum affects things like breaking tackles, picking up the ball in 50/50 contests, contested marks and whatnot, as all these areas I got killed in during the 3rd quarter.
Particularly strange event early on; there was a bit of mucking around in Scooty's forward 50 before I managed to clear it out with a long kick beyond 50 and out of bounds... And had a free kick paid against me for the ball not being touched from a kick in! Goal for Scooty from it, which was meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but gee it was a strange one.

Anyway, well done Scooty. Certainly haven't felt as helpless in this competition as I have playing against you. :(

Upset of the season here, don't know how I did it, but I did.

Was 5 goals down against stakerz, kicked the last 6 goals to win.

Didn't get all the posession and quarter stats as stakerz skipped the screen, assuming he did.

Carlton (EBUS) vs Melbourne (stakerz)

1st: ? - ?
2nd ? - ?
3rd: ? - ?
FT: 12.5.77 - 11.4.70

Posessions

Carlton: Murphy - 12, McLean - 11, Kreuzer - 9

Melbourne: Moloney - 17

Goals

Carlton: Waite - 5, Betts - 2, Henderson - 2, McLean - 2, Kreuzer - 1

Melbourne: Watts - 3, Jurrah - 2, Bate - 1, Trengove - 1, Petterd - 1, Green - 1, Dunn - 1, Jones - 1.

Thanks bro, its a shame our first game stuffed up because that was shaping to be a bit of an epic.

Stakerz suffering from a touch of the Mahamas after his break?

Round 7 - Adelaide (Mahama) vs Melbourne (Stakerz)

After the Scooty games, it was a relief to actually be in with a shot of winning plenty of centre breaks this game. Got momentum early in the second and never really lost it afterwards. 50/50s went my way, players were running loose everywhere, shots were going through.
Awaiting our second game now.

Just had my last home and away match, round 11 vs Stakerz.
He's been offline for a week and i think he's lost a bit of touch / confidence. He still has finals to fire up though, and thats the main thing :thumbsu:
The stats screen skipped out before i could take down the possessions, and i even missed the final scores . Luckily i wrote down the goal scorers, and we can just assume no points were scored...

Final Score
Fremantle: 16.0- 96
Melbourne: 2.0- 12

Goals:
Fremantle: 3 Morabito 2 Sandilands Pavlich Mayne Hill Mundy 1 Anthony Ballantyne Schammer
Melbourne: 1 Bate Watts

Wow, and I thought I did good beating stakerz by 7 points...

A question for jorel, are we doing the pre season comp next season or are we going straight into home and away?

Had a second game with Mahama and was getting some sort of weird lag in the last when I was 4-5 goals up

end scores were 13.4.82 Melbourne

Adelaide 6.1.37

Bate with 7.

Err, far more specifically I was a bit over 3 goals down when each centre bounce started bugging out. Ball was placed on the ground instead of bounced. Stakerz put on 5 quick scores from centre breaks during this before the game crashed with 5 mins left on the clock. At the risk of sounding unreasonable, I'm not sure that should really count mate

Looks like you're keen to claim the win though (straight into FIFA 10 afterwards :p), which I guess I can swallow even though 20 points with over half a quarter to play isn't an unreachable lead, but those last 4 goals weren't exactly legitimate.

Reminds me of a certain game last night ;)

Suspected you might say as much Illnino :p Key differences would be that there was no lag in this game, only bugs, and said bugs were on neither person's end specifically, and only one person kept playing properly during said bugs, and the game ended early due to a crash. In fact, the thing they have most in common is that in each game I conceded a goal while I attempted to communicate by chat!

Should point out that I would've been happy to do a restart if you asked during the first quarter, which I assumed you were doing when you messaged me during our game last night, but instead you said you stopped your downloads and played out the entire game afterwards.

In any case, the results are mostly meaningless until we get to the finals, and as such I'm willing to accept it if Stakerz wants to claim the win, but far less accepting of the claiming of the late flurry of goals.

Edit: Gee, drama is just following me from game to game. I am such a trouble maker

I conceded 2 goals from my 2 messages. Also, I was just putting up with the lag for most of the game but that last quarter, it was just ridiculous and cost me badly. Was a bit late by then to request a rematch with less than 5 mins to go

Anyway, I'm not too fussed mate, just a game. Between yourself, HBK, Scootyb and stakerz, I can't see myself doing too much damage in the finals :p

One game done against Gibbsy. Unfortunately there was a massive amount of lag in the second game for a minute or so (me, unable to go more than 2 games without something bad happening? Never!), and the game ended at the start of the second quarter with the scores tied. Gibbsy is currently offline, so hopefully he can get back on.

Round 6 - Adelaide (Mahama) vs Sydney (Gibbsy)

Adelaide: 4.2 9.4 15.9 20.10 (130)
Sydney: 1.0 5.0 6.0 11.0 (66)

Goals
Adelaide: Knights 10, Porplyzia 2, Walker 2
Sydney: Bradshaw 5, O'Keefe 3, Lamb 2

Disposals
Adelaide: Knights 17, Thompson 15, Tambling 11
Sydney: Jack 9, McVeigh 8, Kennedy 6

I'm sure it goes without saying, but gee momentum is powerful. Pile on a couple of goals and all of a sudden you have a bunch of supermen running around, winning every contested possession, breaking tackles and taking contested marks. Game was fairly even otherwise (2nd and 4th quarters pretty much even).

At this stage I don't know if/when I'd try and start a second season. Will probably need to take a short break. That doesn't mean someone else can't organise something.
