Be a decent show. Varathron, Root and Nocturnus would be my highlights.
Varathron will be interesting, don't now new stuff, never heart about recent shows from them. Nocturnus where great a few years ago (think only around 20-30 people attended in a big city like Hamburg). Like Root a loot even newer material. But my main highlight is Conqueror, they do few live shows and I like the conqueror release so much more then most Revenge stuff...

Do you post on the NWN board? I used to until I was banned for laughing at a Sabbat shirt he printed which read 'Cock Hard Records' on the back. YK 'Insulter of Christ' melted - big ******* sook. Had been on there for years, not one warning, nothing. He also banned my mate a few years back when he released an album (can't recall name) which had very strong goth leanings (my mate knew as his girlfriend is into that sort of music). Old mate makes comment along the lines of 'geez wonder if this album will have the usual NWN 'anti-Goth' catalogue number. Opps, banned immediately. Big ******* sook.
No, I don't post there. Have a strange culture of seriousness there and I get easily annoyed by people who pay way over for used records.

NWN is pox. A couple of the Ignivomous guys spend a fair bit of time trolling it under various aliases for a laugh and that's seems about all it is good for. Any metal community is painful though IMO. I still don't understand how a genre with so many egos hasn't imploded yet. The absolute **** wit paradigm.

I've never really bothered with Metal forums myself. Just the metal-archives but i don't really like some of the mods on there. Drop into #Metal on irc.snoonet.org (IRC channel from /r/Metal on Reddit i think) and it can be 'ok' but it has a lot of the imploding you talk about dwwaino. :p

I went on metal MSN (i think) chat rooms around that time and on many of them you had to name 5 bands on entry. If you didn't or named shit bands you would get kicked :p

Had a day trip to Sydney so dropped by Utopia. Best store in the country by a mile. Picked up Riot - Unleash the Fire, Amulet - the First, Riot - Sons of Society, Grave Digger - Feturn of the Reaper, Obituary - Inked in Blood, Tankard - Kings of Beer, Tyr - Valkyrja, Thanatos - Angelic Encounters, No Remorse No Retreat - Warbringer, No Remorse No Retreat - To Glory we Ride, Dead Congregation - Promulgation of the Fall and an Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind raglan shirt.
Loved the old shop, not so much the new one. Last time I went there (3 years ago I reckon) it was very average ...must have picked up a bit??

Going to Sydney and realising they had moved was almost a disappointing as when we went to LA and pounded along Sunset Blvd past the Hustler Store down towards Tower reecords only to find it had closed down a few years before. Man that was shit. At least I convinced my fiance to get one of the most amazing bikini's off all time from Huster....I still make (beg) her wear it..;)

I am clearly behing the 8-ball guys but what are MWN and FMP? Gaming forums with music links? (Edit NWN would be Nuclear Winter Now right...?)

On topic however, I used to frequent the US Amazon Metal Forum a lot and there was a whole group of maybe 20+ regulars and it was seriously great. Towards the end it started getting infiltrated by a whole bunch of dickheads and a whole group split and started up and independent member-by-invitation-only metal forum. If you somehow find the website/forum and try and register unless a current member knows you and will vouch for you, you dont get accepted. A bit elitist I know but its one way of ensuring decent, educated and adult metal conversation (no Slipknot threads thats for sure..).

Its still in existence today although I dont post there much any more but it has a core of maybe 20 members and another 20 or so who regularly blow through when they have stuff to say. We had members from Australia, New Zealand, Middle East, Canada and the US. A number of the guys had their own bands and stuff but nothing super big or famous. Picked up some cool stuff from those forums. But dont spend a lot of time on them anymore.

Went on a massive Megadeth binge yesterday (Rust in Peace through to Risk), and tonight/this morning moved over to some Load and Reload while just chilling out with some video games. You know what, people can bag Metallica for these albums but put another band's name on them and they're really cool hard rock/metal albums. I really enjoy the southern rock sound of tunes like Poor Twisted Me and Ronnie.
To be honest, I really enjoyed the more commercial "Countdown-Youthenasia-Cryptic Writings" period as 'Deth chased the Metallica $uccess dream. I really really like Youthenasia..its a guilty pleasure and although Cryptic Writings had a real shitty, grungy production it still has some great tunes on it (She-Wolf, FFF, Disintegrators etc).

Unfortunately I cant think of one redeeming quality of either of the Load albums. Southern rock & metal dont mix for me - neither do beer and cordial. No matter who's name they came out under....sorry dude.

All good, would be pretty boring if we were all into the same thing. That would be like going to a metal gig where everyone is wearing shirts of the same 4 or 5 underground bands... oh wait :D

A guilty pleasure of mine is stuff like Nashville Pussy and Alabama Thunderpussy, so anything filthy or redneck with rock/metal just resonates well with me.

As for metal forums I generally hung around guitar forums with metal sections. I used to moderate on ultimate-guitar.com around '02-'06 and kept the metal forum pretty tight forcing numetal and hardcore kiddies to their own little forum. Posted on metaltabs for a while too despite it being really anti black metal for a long time. Occasionally jumped on metalshop but unless you were in the little clique group of posters you generally had a hard time I found.

Must visit that store in May if I go to the Sydney/Carlton game.

i spent some time on the terrorizer forums, around the turn of the century. mostly populated by english folk. spent some time on what may have been metal-rules not long after. seth putnam would occasionally post, i remember him relating a story about ripping a woman's earrings out while waiting in a queue, and how his wife could tell he'd been doing drugs when she sucked his dick.
also spent time on the relapse records forums when they existed. dan lilker used to kick around on there.

Moving on to this ripper EP before I go do something else for the night. I fanned this so hard when it came out. Still good mates with a couple the guys.

"After 30 years, it would literally be like starting over."

Considering the circumstances, this may be one of the great live performances you'll ever see.

After the death of guitarist and chief songwriter Jeff Hanneman, and the permanent departure of founding member and drumming icon Dave Lombardo, and with the future of the band in serious jeopardy, 53-year-old Tom Araya and 50-year-old Kerry F*ckin' King regroup with old friends and fellow quinquagenarians Gary Holt and Paul Bostaph to headline Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany on August 1st, 2014.

Conjuring the power of beards and the power of Satan, the reborn Slayer rip through twelve muscular cuts spanning their three-decade career, performing a variety of tracks lifted from seven of their ten original studio albums.

I grew up listening to Slayer, and understand that their sound and lyrical content can be an acquired taste. To me though, this performance defies genre and individual musical preferences, and is just universally great, both aurally and visually. Even if you're not a fan of the band, or metal music in general, it's hard not to appreciate the skill and the spectacle on display here.

If you can't find something among these 50-odd minutes that even mildly excites you, you might just not have a pulse.
