Love the artwork though, ties in with the quote where Vindsval mentioned "perpetual process of regeneration" because certain species of jellyfish are immortal that can cycle back to birth-like state when they are old, then rinse repeat.

Maybe the next MV will be under a different name after all. I'm getting the vibe that this will be a continuation of the industrial BM stuff. Yerusalem for whatever it is that only Vindsval will understand, and another project for BM/MV.

Just listened through MV II from start to finish again. What an album that was. An all time top 10 for me.

New Prostitute Disfigurement arrived today. Two songs in and it is pretty ******* decent. I had a quick look at the lyrics and am pretty sure the vocalist has some legit issues with homosexuals and females. Goes beyond the usual 'brutal death' misogyny (which I don't get to start with to be honest). Wonder how they get away with it in the current climate to be honest.

A couple of years ago when Cryptopsy played the Northcote, the main support was Whoretopsy. At the time, they were one of those bands that I'd heard of but never heard. Their music was fairly straightforward DM, but looking up the lyrics later, they bothered me more than the name. The guys seemed like normal blokes being silly, which is fair enough (I seriously doubt they actually hold such attitudes towards women), but I decided that Whoretopsy, and by extension the whole pornogrind subgenre, were not for me, which is fair enough too.

While going to metalsucks for my daily laugh at Orwellian-esque ideological superiority (even when I agree with their views, their lack of self-awareness and capacity to consider alternative viewpoints at once frustrates and amuses me), today's editorial was about how the Dayton, Ohio was one of their own (a leftist playing in an extreme metal band, in this case pornogrind). The author finished by musing about what should be banned.

Banned. And there are frequent references on that site to the freedom that metal encourages, its transgessivism, etc.

Banned.

What kind of closed mind seeks to ban that with which it disagrees?

The "cognitive dissonance" the author refers to only arises because of his own lack of understanding for others, his view that only those on his side are moral and good, his need to take sides in the first place.

The simplest solution is to just not indulge an artist you disagree with. I don't like pornogrind. I won't support or spend money on it. But I'm not going to dehumanise those that do, because by elevating myself above my fellows like that, I'm only closing my mind to any sense of shared humanity with them. I'd be dehumanising myself. Recognising this means no cognitive dissonance.

I honestly feel pity for the author.

Anyway, I'll be heading back to my Gorgoroth series soon; my thoughts on Twilight of the Idols will be posted soon.

Edit: "banned" isn't quite what they advocated, not in a legal sense, more deplatforming, i.e. banned in a communal sense by making a collective decision not to support such artists. While the outcome doesn't bother me, the means does in that the individual self-determination to embrace or reject the art is removed by the peer pressure to conform.

I don't think the moment has clicked for them yet that 1984 is actually about them.

I have no interest in that sort of thing either, in fact I'm quite against those sorts of themes. That it exists doesn't bother me, I just ignore it. Extreme metal has always been offensive to somebody and I hate how it is being sanitised.

Can't stand pornogrind but listen to a lot of brutal death and many bands in that subgenre deal with some themes and imagery that I consider average. I love Deranged and Gorgasm - though pretty clear the lyrics are like Italian giallo/tounge in cheek misogyny. There's a song on the PD album called "Every Woman Lives in Fear" - can't find the lyrics online but it is pretty ****ed up. Makes you wonder what is going on upstairs with such people. Also makes you wonder how they avoid the Metal Sucks metal police and the like and bands like D666, MGLA and Marduk get hunted down for their lyrical themes/rants at shows. Keith got nailed for using "sexist" terms at a gig from memory - he's got nothing on 'Every Woman Lives in Fear". Haha.

Underlined part nails it. It's how I approach it.

I actually drew whoretopsys logo. I may be biased since I know the blokes (or the blokes who were in the band at that time) but they are great blokes. Storma, the (ex)vocalist and lyricist is the biggest teddy bear and a really great dad and husband.

It's definitely a trait of brutal death metal, but if you look at whoretopsy compared to some of their peers then you'll see that at least whoretopsy try to turn it into a funny story. The humor tries to come first, through the filter of typical BDM lyrics.

It is probably one of the more restrictive genres in metal, and it seems to attract a lot of bands that aren't that good or don't have a lot of depth, and when a genre is famous for not having much depth you have to try and get attention some other way. "shocking" lyrics for one.

That subgenre not being for you is completely understandable.

Edit: I don't want to be that guy, but whoretopsy probably don't fall under the pornogrind umbrella. Pornogrind is wayyyyy shittier. Think Cemetery Rapist or utensil and Ball Torture.

I'd never really thought about it. I'm pretty sure it is intentional though.

That said, I'll never listen to this without thinking about it now.
Been listening to Drudkh a bit too lately. Been meaning to ask for quite a while because I find Estrangement a hard listen, mainly the opening track. I've time stamped this video, is this a result of poor production? The wavy, pulsating sound - what is it?

Ah bugger, I thought it was something everyone could hear. Was hoping it wasn't going to be one of those 'Can't unhear' things once you hear it.
I can't speak for everyone, but I would have assumed everyone can hear it. I just always put it down to an added flair though so never really gave it a second thought.

Haha definitely can't unhear it as a production error now though.

Probably one of the ones I give the least listens to, but can't find what you're talking about. I'm only on my Bluetooth speaker at work though and will have a listen when I get home.

I've just chucked on Blood in our wells. Going for the soundtracks that fit the sound of rain on the tin workshop roof this morning haha
