Bigfooty General Metal Thread Mk.VII

Probably update my spreadsheet weekly. Did it last night.

Giving me an idea for a project as I need to build a portfolio. CD cataloguing. Can either manually add or upload an Excel spread sheet. Then can save the library online as well as download a new one in Excel format, can share it etc. Might have to look for a good free (or cheap) album database API to give some continuity to entries.

I started maybe five years ago. Took a fair bit to get it up and running as collection was large then. It is invaluable. In saying so show me a cd and 95% of the time or more I will know whether I have it or not.

I actually drew whoretopsys logo. I may be biased since I know the blokes (or the blokes who were in the band at that time) but they are great blokes. Storma, the (ex)vocalist and lyricist is the biggest teddy bear and a really great dad and husband.

It's definitely a trait of brutal death metal, but if you look at whoretopsy compared to some of their peers then you'll see that at least whoretopsy try to turn it into a funny story. The humor tries to come first, through the filter of typical BDM lyrics.

It is probably one of the more restrictive genres in metal, and it seems to attract a lot of bands that aren't that good or don't have a lot of depth, and when a genre is famous for not having much depth you have to try and get attention some other way. "shocking" lyrics for one.

That subgenre not being for you is completely understandable.

Edit: I don't want to be that guy, but whoretopsy probably don't fall under the pornogrind umbrella. Pornogrind is wayyyyy s**ttier. Think Cemetery Rapist or utensil and Ball Torture.

Hey, thanks for your reply, and welcome to the thread (it's always good to get some new posters).

I get that with that particular form of brutal DM the lyrics are incredibly tongue in cheek, and just like everyone else who posts here, I'm not about to blame metal (or hip hop, EDM, etc) for the failings of some who listen to it. I was more 😩 at yet another attempt by an intolerant person who sincerely believes they are tolerant to advocate the deplatforming of something they disagree with. The author is American, so I wonder what his view on the constitutional protection of freedom of speech is? I don't like the lyrical subject matter, but I know the guys who play that music don't actually advocate it happening IRL either (well, different genre, but Varg...).

Anyway, look forward to seeing more of you around here!

Cheers mate. Good to see there is a place for music on this website.

I guess that's one of the only "concerning" things with art like black metal or BDM for me. How can you be sure that the person saying these things doesn't actually hold those beliefs to be true.

That said I don't actually think about it all to often but when things like (Not a fan) the singer of As I Lay Dying attempting to put a hit on his wife or other metal scandals it does make me think for a second.

P. S metalsucks sucks.

I used to be able to pick any CD out of my collection and know where I bought it from and approximately when. Not anymore though, I lost that ability somewhere along the way.

Yeah once you get past the 1000th CD mark it all starts to blend together. Still a number of gems that I will never forget.

Tigers of Pan Tang 'S/T' on (quality varies on this - songs like Glad Rags and I Got The Music In Me can bugger off). Picked it up from Heartland (along with Jaguar's 'Power Games', Blitzkrieg's 'A Time of Changes' and Witchers Creed 'AFTT'). Funnily enough, none of these cds were in the metal section. The first three were filed in hard rock and Witchers Creed in stoner. Good to see some old NWOBHM bands on the shelf. Saw a second hand copy of Venom's 'CBTS' cd on Neat (this pressing fetches a bit of coin). It hadn't been priced and I was in a rush so didn't bother to ask.

Ive been banging on about that Tygers for ages. One of my ‘surprises of the year’. Blood Red Sky, Devil you Know, Only the Brave, Do It Again and the mighty Dust sure getting a place on my backyard bbq party tape.

Haha yeah. They'd probably be fine in a few EU countries I imagine, but yeah. Germany and the likes would be a no-go. Kinda disappointing tbh though.

Think that's a Finland only affair at the moment. I enjoy a lot of what Mikko produces and order from him quite a bit. Plays black metal, noise, grind, stoner, doom and RAC. He runs record labels and a store. He produces pr0n. His mailorder sells a large variety of music. This bloke isn't the face of the fourth reich - just someone with an interest in underground subcultures etc. For what it's worth I'd fancy a number of RAC types would not want to associate with someone like him. Best the Brunswick St black metal fans start concerning themselves with real targets - plenty of RAC shows in Germany they can look to protest. Just gets a bit harder when the people they are protesting are happy to fight back with violence.
