I'm a gojira fan so I'm biased

But ill admit I don't like everything they do
I like some of the really heavier stuff and some of the really mellow stuff as well

From Mars to Sirius and
The Way of all Flesh are prob my fav two albums
Yeah i dont mind the mellow stuff as well. Fortitude has a bit of everything i feel, not sure where id rank it amongst their albums. Lyrics are pertinent and they've really emphasised their stance as environmental activists. To me, its a bit like Opeth's 'Ghost Reveries', a bit of everything.

Exercises in Futility.

A genre classic since release. While Mgla aren't my favourite band, what they've done to Black Metal probably makes them the most important band in the world for the last 10 years or so.

Title actually sums up my relationship with my last gf pretty well, now that I think about it.

Bit of hyperbole with the ‘best band in the world for the last 10 years’ but agree they have been a breath of fresh air for BM and a band I enjoy.

I liked those two albums as well, and I think Fortitude is impressive but not a fan of the others

EIF is the closest thing to a modern BM classic. Lots of good albums over the years but nothing has stood the test of time since the classics of the 90s and early 00s. Six years on and that one is still standing. EIF and Sinmara - Hvisl Starjnanna are as far as I'm concerned the two best BM releases of the last 10 years.

Watched a good doco on Netflix called ‘Long Shot’. Only goes about 45 min. An innocent guy looks like going down for Murder and a strange series of coincidences gets him off. Larry David is involved. And Dodger stadium.

True story. Highly recommended.

Think there is a new Son of Sam series on there from tomorrow.

We’ve been running polls for best albums for the years from the early 80s up to the present on ROD. Huge drop off in quality from about 95 onwards. No shock but still interesting reading.

I'd have maybe half of that lot, with very few from the '98 onwards. Probably only Mgla, Funeral Mist (hardly their best album btw) & Necros Christos.

... and not a single doom metal album on the list!

There is - 2002. A bit of doom metal in the top ten lists for each year though it is a very small sub-genre that stands no chance against thrash, death and black metal. ROD also has a lot of black metal fans hence the album selections for this century pretty much comprising of black metal bands. I have 30 of the albums on the list and could live without any of the albums from 93 onwards (probably four from 93 onwards I listen to).

I enjoy the Deathspell Omega and Immolation inclusions from post-96, although I'd never have guessed they'd be AOTY for a lot of people. Teitanblood is the biggest surprise? I don't think there is anything special about them and hardly see them talked about, yet they're there twice.... Funeral Mist and GBK are ok. Mgla are good but I hate the WHTN album
