Pick 46 Fremantle - Jack Dalton (177cm mid)
The Fremantle board will no doubt be calling for me to take Rodriguez here, but I don’t give in to peer pressure that easily.
While Dalton might not be the flashiest player and a sub 180cm mid doesn’t tend to be high on a clubs wishlist, I just don’t see him failing. Worst case, he dominates state league and is talked up as a mature aged prospect every year. He can and will run all day, he wins his own ball inside and receives on the outside.
For Fremantle, I think we lack a genuine ball magnet outside of our stars. Nobody is regularly racking up 30 touches in the WAFL, Dalton will. And we have a bunch of bigger bodies already, so size wouldn’t be an issue. Plus I can see him making a more than handy pressure forward with his tackling and work rate.
Foot skills are the only thing stopping him from going earlier, but I’d still back him over some of those drafted so far.
Thunderstruck
Can't be us. We love our WA scoutYep, a communication breakdown between those two scouts based in WA working for interstate based AFL clubs, particularly those recruiters in Vic. That's what they said. We can only speculate if they were "not listened too" or "not coming up with information the recruiters interstate liked".
