Pick 50 - West Coast - Charlie Banfield (Matched Bid) New
Pick 51 - Adelaide - Sam Ainsworth New
Pick 51 - Adelaide Sam Ainsworth Norwood 198cm

Write-up to come but figured Banfield would be matched but not unhappy to land Ainsworth here. Raw, but big upside and few are as competitive as Sam, I think he will have some versatility going forward.

Great pick at 51.
So much to work with.

Pick 52 - Collingwood - Taj Murray New
Pick 52 - Collingwood - Taj Murray (NT)

Grabbed a high potential ruck/forward to fill a need. Fill writeup to come.

Pick 53 - North Melbourne - Rory Wright New
Pick 53 - North Melbourne - Rory Wright Sandringham Dragons - 183cm

In all likelihood north won’t take this selection to draft night because we only have 3 list spots. However, if I was list manager there would have been 1-2 in the delist gun and I would’ve preferenced taking this pick!

Wright is simply a real footballer’s footballer. Old school competitive mentality, but that’s not where it ends. He has composure, and a left foot kick can be damaging.

He started off the year in the midfield, but a shift to half back through the year seen him take his game to another level. His competitiveness held him in good stead often throwing his body to stop opposition forays forward, both in the air and at ground level. At AFL level he’ll have the potential to be a dour lockdown type who can also provide drive, in that Brayden Maynard mould.

This is a puzzler - what kind of player do you draft for the team that has everything? An abundance of riches through the middle, the acquisition of Allen and emergence of Ty Gallop has covered what was a slight weakness in their tall forwards. They might look at adding another quality tall defender but this isn't the draft pool or pick for that.

With Ah Chee headed out the door, Charlie Cameron now 31 and showing some inconsistency, and some uncertainty around Zac Bailey, we'll add some depth to their small forward group by picking:

Talor Byrne - Pick 38 - Brisbane Lions - write up to come

They have a few interesting academy prospects they could look at here, but I feel that its a bit too early for them at this pick.
Went and watched some of his highlights, I was impressed. Excellent pick, thank you.

Pick 54 - Western Bulldogs - Will Darcy New
Sorry for the wait guys. This is the dogs last pick

Pick 54 - Western Bulldogs - Will Darcy (F/S)
Oakleigh Chargers
196cm, Key defender/forward

Brother of Sam and has some similarities with his ability to kick off both sides of his body and is very clean below his knees. Also very agile and quick for a tall. Showed quite a lot at APS level as a key defender which is where I think he will develop. Plenty of upside in Will after a fairly significant 15cm growth spurt and is very skinny and less exposed compared to others. Dogs will be hoping he can be a late developer like his brother.

Pick 55 - Collingwood - Rod Ali New
Pick 55 - Collingwood - Rod Ali (Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro)

A bit of a raw talent but with the right development could become something special. Taking on upside.

Pick 56 - Hawthorn - Hugo Mikunda New
Pick 56 Hawthorn - Hugo Mikunda (180cm forward)

I have Mikunda right around the top 30 mark, so think he’s a pretty decent pick up at this point in the draft. Shapes as a high half forward, smart and just makes good decisions. Even if his goal numbers aren’t up, his goal assists will be. Also an option to pinch hit in the middle.

Thought about Roberts-Thompson and Peucker as well as similar player types. Was also going to make a joke about overlooking Kickett because of Hawthorn’s history with indigenous players, but I got home late from work and can’t be bothered formulating it properly. And I just had Mikunda as best available anyway.

Smythe I think

Pick 58 - Adelaide - Liam Hetherton New
Pick 58 - Adelaide Liam Hetherton Murray Bushrangers 198cm

Lovely key tall forward who can chop out in the ruck. Crows lose Tex and Maley is yet to be proven so depth/insurance here is important. Write-up to come

Pick 59 - St Kilda - Cody Curtin New
Pick 58 - St Kilda - Cody Curtin (Claremont/Western Australia)

Happy to throw a pick this late on him. Given Max King's injury history having a contested marking option is important and think he offers value when its a dart throwing contest.

Melbourne seem likely to only use 3 national draft selections which they already have done at this point. Likely I think to wait and hope that Kalani White falls through to the rookie draft.

So Melbourne pass on this pick.

If I'm reading the list right its back to PMBangers for Carlton

Pick 60 - Carlton - Isaac Waller New
Pick 60 - Carlton
Isaac Waller
Lions Academy
RUC/ KPF

One of two players left I consider draftable and Brisbane don't have the list spots to match so nice and easy one

Pick 61 - Fremantle - Leon Kickett New
Pick 61ish Fremantle - Leon Kickett (173cm forward)

Realistically Fremantle aren’t using this pick. We’ll likely have two live picks, with this one providing versatility in case Whan gets bid on. And then we’ll hold one over for preseason and probably trial a couple of mature rucks. But not using the pick is a bit boring.

I’d be a tad surprised if Kickett didn’t go in the top 40. Small forwards are seemingly in demand and he’s a pretty good one.

Looking like Richmond are into him and he cancelled a podcast to interview with Richmond
#38 is what we have

Pick 12 Hawthorn - Josh Lindsay (183cm mid/def)

Just 11 picks in, and the draft is already light on for what I would view as Hawthorn’s biggest need. No, not less cringeworthy behaviour that even the most one eyed adult fan must be embarrassed by. Or the ability to stand up in a tackle and not flop at the slightest touch. I’m talking about midfield depth. There’s a reason they were keen to sell the farm for Merrett after all.

But since that top line mid just isn’t here, I’ll go best available and pick a guy who is at least one of the best at what he does - kick. And since Hawthorn’s next million dollar player is a butcher, getting some genuine skill and vision seems like a good idea.

The question mark is where does Lindsay play, he’d probably be a top 10 lock if the answer to that was in the middle. But it’s more likely to be half back or wing. The other question is does he get an original nickname or steal one from a superior former player.

Otherwise, I had Marsh, Dovaston and Barker in the mix. Would have been 50/50 between Lindsay and Farrow.

PMBangers
We apparently lack good kicks on our team? Right, and Fremantle need to draft a decent ruckman.

Dovaston wouldn’t get past our pick.
