Player Sponsor Meet and Greet function

Date:
Wednesday 21 May

Time: 4:30pm - 6:00pm

Venue: Sanctum at RSEA Park

4:30 on a Wednesday, they like to make it tricky don't they. I'm available if we need someone last minute, can't guarantee I'd be on time (of course it's the same day as first aid training)

Why do we always seem to struggle to get takers for these?
Is it that hard to get around in Melbane???

For me they are a bit boring. Never been to one of the BF sponsor ones but club events aren't that interesting.

yep I'm on the other side of town an hour plus just to get there then add peak hour traffic (15-25min extra), then gotta find parking which isn't easy. plus if you've got kids or Friday sport. just weird hours, neither work hours or after work hours

Fair enough. I know they’d want to hold everything at Moorabbin but I wonder if they should try having some of the functions at a more central location such as a city pub function room or the like?

We getting a report? Haven't had one from event 1 or 2 yet that I've seen
Hang 10 goodie23.......a report from last Friday night is pending.

I've just tried so hard to erase last Friday night from my collective pycshe......

But.....those party Pies were quite a different story.

😃😃😃

First update of the arvo:

Have met up with kosifantutti for a drink. Players still not out so just mingling.

Mason Wood tried to sneak past the windows wearing nothing but Speedos and a towel but he was quickly spotted.

A cry of "Phwoar, look how ripped he is!" from one of the ladies brought him to our attention haha 😅

Spoke to Harry Boyd.

Very intelligent, very savvy bloke.

Got the call from Simon Dalrymple via the clubs physio who was previously at Norwood. Didn't have manager so it was pure happenstance that the connection could be made without alerting too many people.

Studying to be a physio himself. Has about a year left to be qualified.

Was frustrated that we didn't stick with the two ruck plan beyond round 1. Said that he and Ro didn't even get a full game together in match sim and then when Ro got hurt against the Crows it meant the whole rotation was thrown off.

Has missed a few games in the VFL as he was the travelling emergency. Said that makes it tough to push his way in but Ross talks to him each week to reassure him that if any issues come up he is absolutely next in line.

Said Maxy Heath has been working on forward craft to try and get a game.

Rates Keeler but didn't say anything re: position or what he's working on.

Reckons Dodson will be an weapon but he's probably 2 years away at least in terms of body prep.

We asked about Harry's willingness or ability to play other positions. He said that's not a focus. That the club brought him in as a ruck and that they want him working as the back up #1 ruck.

Asked him about the TDK talk. He joked that "He's pretty good for a forward." He said that there's not a lot he can do so no point worrying about it. That if TDK does come in we would probably be playing two rucks and rotate them forward and he (Harry) will still be the ready made back up.

He rekons that if the AFL go to 5 on the bench that every club will play 2 genuine rucks. Rekons it'll be the biggest shift in style we have seen for a while.

Said the SANFL rules for "Last touch out of bounds" are awesome and wishes the AFL would adopt it.

Called the VFL "scrappy". Doesn't rate the quality compared to the SANFL in general.

Asked him about other rucks:

Loves Kieran Briggs. Watches his games.

Said Nic Nat was the best tap ruck hes seen. Is glad he didn't have to play against him.

Doesn't rate Mason Cox. At all. Mentioned him when talking about clubs playing two rucks. "If you can call him a ruckman..."

He's very realistic in understanding that he was the last bloke on the list but made it clear that he's not just going through the motions. If Ro gets hurt or we decide to play two rucks he's absolutely ready to go.

Overall I was super impressed with his attitude. He genuinely feels he's got the talent and skills to make it, he just needs the opportunity.

Hope Ross gives him a crack in the back half of the season. If we can't play finals then put Ro on ice and give Harry 4-6 weeks to show what he's got.

Not much too add to that thorough report.
We started beside the dais and I had a chat to Bruce Eva after he finished the introductions.
He’s working on a book about Trevor Barker and it features that iconic photo of Barks taking that mark at Windy Hill which was taken by a true Saints fan who also is a professional photographer.

When Harry came out he was talking to his other sponsors so we gave him some time before wandering over.

About 30 seconds after we came over the official photographer arrived and wanted to take a photo.
When that was done, Harry insisted that she also take a photo with his other sponsors. What a pro! And a real gentleman.

LWP has covered most of that conversation.

I had a walk around and spoke to Liam O’Connell about the plague of Irish in Fawkner Park every night. And regaled him with tales of my achievements in Irish football.

I also had a quick chat to Ryan Byrnes and Cooper Sharman whose sponsorship I once arranged for another website.

There was no problem getting a drink and I’m sure there was a lot of food but my focus was elsewhere and by the time I got there only the fruit was on the table.

Overall it was a great night and I’d recommend it to anyone who gets the chance next time.

Thanks gents, sounds like a decent arvo. Not bitter at all about missing out

It was what people made of it.

We met a couple of ladies who sponsor Arie and they were disappointed that he had to stay away due to gastro.

The club were great though in that anyone who didn't have their player in attendance was taken around by staff to talk to basically any player they wanted.

As kosifantutti mentioned: The club photographer was going around and snapping pics of anyone who asked but big Harry actually chased her down to get picks with everyone that came up and talked to him. He's an absolute pro.

I also learned that kosifantutti is a Spurs man so congrats on that result sir!!

Getting to Moorabbin before 4.30 would be an absolute arse. Peak starts at 2pm these days
