9th - Lewis Jetta

View attachment 751705

Total votes - 16.33

Ranking - 9th

Games Played - 22

What a career turnaround this guy has had. From barely holding his spot in our side to winning a premiership with us to becoming probably our most damaging player. Jetta was huge in 2019. His pace is still a weapon but has been overshadowed by his elite footskills and has been described as the best kick in the game. Jetta's best game came in the Round 23 loss v Hawthorn where he racked up 23 disposals and 3.59 votes in a season where he built upon his status as a leader. One of our biggest positive movers this year.

Ranking - 5th

Games Played - 24

Darling established himself as one of the premier key forwards of the competition in 2019. He came 4th in the Coleman Medal and ranked 5th for Total Contested Marks. 6 goals against the Western Bulldogs in Round 11 (4.88) was the first of 3 Best on Ground Performances for Darling along with Round 18 v Melbourne (4.45) and Round 21 v Adelaide (4.84). Darling played all 24 games this year then won his first All Australian blazer and the Premiership forward will be aiming to continue his form in 2020 after a career best 2019.

Shocking up until round 10

It's the nature of the key position forward (especially one that is second banana to one of the best KPFs of this era) that there tends to be spurts of hot and cold form.

Still, would walk into the first 18 of every team in the competition. Forever grateful that he slipped to us at pick 26 and no matter how unfairly he is maligned by those that know nothing, he was a vital part of premiership success and completely redeemed himself for his shocker in the 2015 GF.

Sheed had a great season. Had doubts about him even after the GF, but he's worked hard this year.
I reckon even if he was equally good next year, his votes will drop off considerably because he’s set the expectation now.

Fans will generally reserve some of their votes to players that exceed their expectations. Once they’ve set the standard, you judge them harsher.

Redden is a good example of this.

He was obviously better in 2018 but I don’t think his form dropped off so badly that he went from our 2nd best player to our 14th best, but that’s how our board saw it.

Gov is probably the best example. Plenty of people on here saying he’s had a down season when he’s in as good or better form than he’s ever been across most stats.

4th - Dom Sheed

Breakout season for Dom after his 2018 GF heroics where he played every game and was one of our biggest positive movers. Sheed started the season off on fire, with Best on Grounds in Round 1 v Brisbane (4.62) and Round 3 v Collingwood (2.94) putting him at number 1 in the polling for almost the entire first third of the season and it was daylight between him and second. Didn't finish off the season as well despite still polling another Best on Ground performance in Round 14 v Essendon (4.59). Sheed's best game was probably his first of the year where he collected 38 disposals and a goal against Brisbane and was certainly in discussion for AA early in the year on this board. Hoping for more development from Dom in 2020.
