    7th place - #17 Josh Kennedy

    kennedy.jpg

    Total votes - 16.47

    Ranking - 7th

    Games played - 17

Senior citizen Kennedy put together a strong season in 2020 where he came second in the Coleman despite half this board retiring him in earlier in the year. JK only missed one game (Round 15) in a year where he ranked 2nd for Goals per Game and 3rd for Marks Inside 50 along with his 34 majors. Led the forward line again and showed he is still one of the premier power forwards in the competition with games like Round 8 v Collingwood where he had 16 disposals, 5 marks and 7 goals and his back to back BOG performances in Round 7 (4.55) and 8 (4.67). JK signed a one year contract extension for 2021 in what may be the final season for our all time leading goalkicker.

    6th place - #14 Liam Duggan

    Ranking - 6th

A career best year for the Dug saw him catapult himself from 20th place in 2019 to 6th place in 2020. Duggan showed promise in the midfield as he took more responsibility when we were hit by injuries so hopefully we see him transition into a good mid in 2021. Strong games such as 19 disposals and 8 marks vs Fremantle in Round 7 and 23 disposals, 5 marks and 4 tackles in a BOG performance (4.69 votes) vs Richmond in Round 14 demonstrated that our future leader might finally be ready to take the next step. Duggan ranked 11th in the competition for Total Marks in 2020.

Another outstanding season for Sheppard saw him finally awarded with his first AA jacket. He continued to show that he is one of the best backman in the competition with performances such as 22 disposals, 8 marks and a goal(!) vs Hawthorn in Round 12, 23 disposals, and 10 marks vs Fremantle in Round 7 and 21 disposals and 13 marks vs Sydney in Round 5. Shep also earned BOG honours in back to back efforts in Rounds 3 vs Brisbane (4.38 votes) and Round 4 vs Port (4.48 votes). He played every game in season 2020 and ranked 8th in the competition for Total Marks and for Marks per Game, he was also incredibly durable as he was ranked 14th for Time on Ground % per Game.

Fantastic season for Gaff which saw him honoured with AA squad selection, although he missed out on the final team. Gaff was our most consistent mid for the season, playing in all 18 games (including several with 100% game time) and polling in 15 of them so while he never received a BOG, he was present the votes almost every game. Gaff finished the season 1st in the competition for Total Uncontested Possessions as well as 6th for Total Disposals and 8th for Effective Disposals per Game, demonstrating his status as one of the premier wingmen of the competition. His best game of the season probably came against St Kilda in Round 17 where he stood up in the absence of other first choice mids and racked up 33 disposals, 3 tackles, 4 marks and a goal. He had similar games where he 25-30 touches but always hovered around the 1-2 vote mark, does our board underrate Gaff?

    3rd place - #11 Tim Kelly

    Total votes - 22.06

    Ranking - 3rd

An interesting season for Kelly in which no one on this board seemed to rate him and yet he still finished 3rd in our count? Kelly ranked 3rd in the competition for goal assists per game and 10th for Total Inside 50s as well as recorded games such as a 30 disposal, 6 mark, 4 tackle and 1 goal game vs St Kilda in Round 17, a 26 disposal, 4 mark, 4 tackle and 1 goal game vs Richmond in Round 14 and a 29 disposal, 4 mark and 1 goal game vs Collingwood in Round 8. Kelly may not have reached the dizzying heights that he did in his first two seasons for Geelong but he still showed his capability to be a star midfielder on several occasions. He played every game including the condensed fixture which included his best game for the year vs St Kilda in Round 17 where he stood up and in his own words, "hunted the ball". Kelly received BOG honours for that game with 4.96 votes (which in terms of votes was our 2nd best performance of the year by any player on our list) as well as Round 6 vs Adelaide with 4.84 votes.

Looking forward to reading how he finished too high despite all of you throwing significant votes on him :moustache:

    2nd place - #1 Liam Ryan

    Total votes - 31.91

    Ranking - 2nd

    Games played - 18

In 2020, Liam Ryan went from a flashy and inconsistent but still talented forward to one of the best small forwards in the competition. His vision, skills and goal sense catapulted him into the top 2 and if it wasn't for an average first half of the season, he would have been a real shot at winning it. After Round 14, Ryan polled in every game with his lowest tally still being a strong 2.3 votes in Round 17 v St Kilda and this stretch also included 3 BOG performances (Ryan was the only player to record 3 BOG games for us this year) in Round 15 vs Essendon (4.97 votes) which was the highest score for the entire year in a single game with Eastcoasteagle the only voter to not award him with 5 votes (gave 5 to Hurn instead), 16 vs the Bulldogs (4.73 votes) and 18 vs North (4.90 votes). Ryan's outstanding season was rewarded with AA honours and he has the privilege(?) of being the only premiership player to sit inside our top 5. Ryan's best game statistically came against the Bombers where he had 14 disposals, 8 marks and 4 goals and as well as scoring well himself with 26 goals, he was also ranked 9th in the competition for Score Involvements.

We finally got a full season out of the big man and boy did he pick up where he left off. Naitanui was on a mission in 2020 and reminded the competition that the ruck is his position. Tapwork, leap and contested ability was all on show this year and NN was rightfully awarded his second AA jacket for his efforts. Nic ranked 2nd in the competition for Total Hitouts and 3rd for Total Centre Clearances which shows that when he isn't tapping it to our mids, he is doing it all himself. Two BOG honours for NN this year in Round 9 vs Geelong with 4.72 votes and the Elimination Final vs Collingwood with 4.30 votes may seem low for the great man, but when you consider that NN was our only player to poll in every single game that he played in 2020, it's pretty clear why he won and why no one was really ever close to beating him.

Congratulations Nic Naitanui, you are the BigFooty West Coast Eagles Player of the Year for 2020!
