28th place - #40 Callum Jamieson

C.Jamieson.jpeg

Total votes - 3.18

Ranking - 29th

Games played - 9

Jamieson debuted in Round 2 vs North as a key defender and struggled pretty hard as a young raw ruckman forced to play in the last line of defence against an almost AFL quality side. He returned later on in the season to play as an actual ruckman and actually did some nice things against opponents that were often far bigger and more experienced than him. His best game probably came in Round 10 vs GWS where he recorded 13 disposals and 12 hitouts.

A frustrating year for Petruccelle who usually performed decently enough when he was on the field but constant hamstring injuries robbed him of any continuity in his game and seemed stuck in a cycle of playing ok then doing his hammy and missing the next several weeks. Kicked 3 goals against the Suns in Round 20 which was his best return for the season.

Cheers Squashy! Wasn't sure who I'd end ip with but I was happy with a few of the more selfless performances he had this year.

Wait, my crush was Jamieson and not Petch?

A good debut season from Hough which saw him play the majority of games despite probably not being physically ready. He often started games well before running out of steam and was clearly gassed towards the end of the season. Recorded 23 disposals and 11 marks against the Bulldogs in Round 11 as his best game for the season.

Once a star and arguably the best wingman in the game and now a resident BF whipping boy. Gaff had a poor year where he played injured and was forced into an inside role that clearly didn't suit him. He still managed 7 games over 25 disposals and 3 over 30 but his impact was often still quite low. His best game of the season probably came in Round 12 vs Adelaide where he had 30 disposals and kicked a goal along with 4 tackles.

A board favourite this year but struggled with injury and then for opportunity. Clark made his AFL debut in Round 7 vs Richmond and had his best game for the season with 24 disposals, 7 marks and 6 tackles. He also recorded a whopping 10 tackles in Round 12 v the Crows. Hopefully he gets more time as an inside mid next season as this is clearly where he plays his best footy.

Our prized pick 1 in the mid-season draft. Culley debuted in Round 18 v the Hawks and put on a tackling show recording 11 of them in one game. He backed it up the next week with 19 disposals, a goal and 7 more tackles which was also his highest polling game for the year. He got suspended and injured himself in Round 20 v the Suns but returned for the final round v Geelong where he racked up another 10 tackles. Will be good to see what he can bring with a full preseason under his belt.

Down from his electrifying best in 2022, Ryan still had moments when he reminded us how talented he is. He kicked 3 goals on two occasions and went goalless in 5 of his 17 games which he will need to improve upon next year especially with Rioli leaving. Needs to work on his goalkicking too as he kicked 12 behinds for the year.

In his first season in the blue & gold, SPS never really got going. He started the season injured after hurting his knee in the preseason and never looked like he was at full fitness. Played all around the field in midfield, forward and in the backline, he didn't really get a defined role which was disappointing as this was one of the things that WCE said that they wouldn't do when they signed him. Hopefully a full preseason and more player availability next year allows us to not throw him all over the ground in 2023.

Decent season for Waterman who ended up playing the second most games for us this season (who would've picked that at the start of the year?) and had some good games including 3 goals vs Hawthorn in Round 18, 16 disposals to go with 8 marks and 2 goals in Round 14 vs Geelong, and 17 disposals with 11 marks in Round 8 v Brisbane.
