Or maybe he's overrated on this board?
I think most think he’s a handy player.

Hes rated highly this year because he’s been available for one - and has been one of the few players who have improved.

But we can see at worst he will play a part of our future but at best he could have a decent ceiling.

A combination of Bailey's improvement, availability and just not being a complete spud has resulted in perhaps a tad of over-rating. Still think he deserved a top 5 finish in the actual BnF too.

5th place - #31 Jamaine Jones

5th place goes to Jones who managed to place here despite only playing 13 games and only polling in 8 of those. That's either a huge effort from Jones or a reflection of our year as a whole (he did finish all the way down in 22nd in the JW Medal though so perhaps we just rate him a bit higher here). In any case, Jones was again impressive off half back as well as in the forward line as a dynamic line breaker. He won Best on Ground honours in Round 2 v GWS where he recorded 27 disposals but also shone in Round 5 v Geelong (25 disposals and 4 marks) and Round 6 v Richmond (30 disposals, which was a career best, and 7 marks).

5th on BigFooty, 22nd at the Worsfold Medal: interesting disparity between how BigFooty posters and the Eagles' coaches see him. I wonder where he sat in the JW Medal after 10 rounds?

I think it goes to show how much of the jw medal consists of playing every game .

Jones is the type of player that gets noticed by the average viewer for his flashy stuff. Not like a Tom Cole or Liam Duggan.

4th place - #12 Oscar Allen

An elite season from Oscar that saw him go from not playing a game in 2022 to playing every one in 2023 while finishing 7th in the Coleman and only going goalless once. Allen is candidate for captaincy for next season and already led the club in games this year when Shuey was unavailable. His highlights included 15 disposals, 7 marks and 4 goals in Round 8 v Richmond (a Best on Ground performance) and 18 disposals, 9 marks and 3 goals in Round 23 v the Bulldogs.

Allen deserved to be higher.
What a travesty.
When the top 5 was Squashied I honestly thought he'd be a good solid second with BBW 3rd and Hunt 4th and JJ 5th.

Still think he should have been second. Imagine how bad we would have been without his goals every game (bar one).

Such an important player for us in a tough year, Williams played every single game leading the ruck as a 23 year old and takes out the bronze medal. He's still learning and it remains to be seen if he plays as a number 1 ruck for the rest of his career but there is no denying that he was one of our shining lights in 2023. Some strong returns from Bailey this year included: 21 disposals and 37 hitouts in Round 6 v Port (a Best on Ground performance), 20 disposals, 35 hitouts and a goal in Round 13 v Adelaide (another Best on Ground performance and our only unanimous BOG performance for the season), 14 disposals, 5 marks, 7 tackles, 39 hitouts and a goal in Round 16 v St Kilda, and 23 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and 24 hitouts in Round 20 v North Melbourne (another Best on Ground performance). Well done, Bailey.

Fantastic year from the new recruit who played every game to take out the silver medal. Hunt gave us drive from halfback and pace from the wing which was almost as important as his durability and consistency in a tough year. Hunt turned in some strong performances in his first year for the club including 34 disposals, and 9 marks in Round 11 v Essendon (a Best on Ground performance), 27 disposals, 15 marks and a goal in Round 17 v Brisbane and 23 disposals with 5 marks in Round 7 v Carlton (another Best on Ground performance). Well done, Jayden.
