Yes, the American pre-season jolly where the likes of Cunningham, Mee, Boyata, Kay, Tutte, Nimely have all got starts and half a dozen of our best XI haven't made an appearance is the ideal way to judge a team.

The year you got two points in the first couple of months, IIRC you blitzed it in the pre-season.

And no offence, but I don't think finishing 4th qualifies anyone as a champion team.
True, also shows the younger players coming through are as selfish as all the others
I do believe it takes a champion team to break the top 4?

LOL, if you say so.
Doubt you saw the match against NYRB but incase you did a few of those young players were selfish and surely thats not what you want?
And if im correct the team that started against Sporting had the likes of Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Bridge, Ireland, Vieira, Zabaleta, A.Johnson, Jo, Bellamy started or play at least a half of that game?

I've watched both matches, the kids were fine (just not near making our senior squad in most cases). Which ones would you say were selfish? I can't think of any that stood out as selfish, Nimely got plenty of the ball but his link up play with Jo was excellent.

The Sporting match was our second of the pre-season (the first was a few days before). Just a kickabout really (Sportings season start is a week away), probably only 4 of the players you mentioned will be in our starting lineup when we play you.

Pointless reading anything into preseason games, particularly at the start.

And about 4 or so of our players that played in america will start against you guys as well?? and we came home with a win and a draw? what is that saying?

Absolutely nothing.

Was I right that the year you struggled to get a point in the first few months of the season that you blitzes the pre-season? Something like 5 or 6 wins from 5 or 6 from memory.

It's just irrelevant.

Well we were under Ramos at the time and i wouldnt say we 'blitzed' pre-season. We did win most games but the teams we played weren't that great bar celtic, dortmund and roma and even then they aren't a team you would really think we would lose to.

we went undefeated in that preseason only to pick up 2 points in the first couple of months. i dont get overly excited about pre-seasons games but winning those games does create more confidence*. im also not going to make any guesses as to where we will finish this season untill 'arry makes a few transfers.

*not including 08/09 with our wonderful start with 2 points!

Apparently a bid for Scott Parker was rejected. West Ham will not sell at any price.

Only a bit over two weeks to go and we have done nothing in the transfer market. Harry is still probably sulking over Joe Cole turning us down.

And it's painfully obvious we need a striker. JD, Crouch, Pav and Keane are just not good enough.

JD not good enough? 18 goals in the league last year? pretty sure thats a good effort. Crouch 8 goals in the league but he does a lot more than score goals. We need a CB more than anything, and a LB n we are alright. Maybe a more high profile forward would be nice but we dont NEED one whereas we do NEED a CB

What if we change formation and play 1 up front, will JD be good enough or strong enough. Doubt it, he is a good EPL striker, but he isn't World Class which is what we need to progress out squad.

My tip,

Spurs to land Suarez...huge risk, but with a potentially great reward.

Can we play 1 up front though? correct in saying he is a good EPL forward but i think if he and crouchy can play together and play well, they have played that much with one another we shouldnt change that, in saying that a world class striker is something we need AFTER we seek a CB.
Right about Suarez too, just like bentley, and keane (with celtic) hopefully we can get him and it can work

Dunno everyones obsession with signing a LB. We have Bale and BAE, and IMO BAE is in the top 3 LB's in the league.

Spend the whole kitty on a striker
BAE is a good player at times, lacks consistency. I would love to see bale at LB but it would mean we need a LM? If i was Haz i would play Gio on the left but that wont be happening so we will have to sort after another LM. And for Europe we need more than one solid player in most if not all positions if we are going to play 3 games a week?

we played one up front in our friendly the other day. modric played just behind keane.

IMO we need a world class striker. defoe isnt good enough from CL and wont be able to maintain form all season. i see the same with pav. keane is no longer any good so we need to offload him.

i would like suarez or maybe even fabiano to come.

and our LB situation, we are fine in that department. BAE, Bale(if needed, play him at LM) aswell as naughton and the other bloke we signed with him (blanked out on his name). with the latter two used for our cup games.

naughton hmmm not sure, sandro (i presume thats who you are talking about) isnt a natural LB. Id rather a CB than a LB so we can keep bale at LM.
I do agree i would love fabiano for suarez to come.

Correct. BAE is a top leftback, he is dedicated and skilled. Doesnt buy into all the bling boy bullshit that a lot of his fellow footballers (and teammates) do and just gets on with the job.

AND we have Bale to cover him, albeit at the detriment of the team as hes much superior at left midfield but he can still cover BAE, as can Bassong.

The Parker bid mystifies me, we have just brought Sandro (please dont be another Zokora), Arry' loves the Hudd, and we have Palacios! The latter being a bit patchy last season, maybe we are moving Wilson on if we find the right repalcement but why bother? Its not like Parker is a class above anyone we've got, sure hes better but why spend the money there????

I agree with what someone else said, we need to purchase a top class striker. Huntelaar etc, he can play up front by his own. Keane needs to be shipped off asap, hes a legend of the club and hes on the back of my last shirt but hes outstayed his welcome.

sandro's a midfielder. i was talking about kyle walker, we bought both the kyles from sheff utd at the same time. with walker getting a few appearances at RB this season.

signed with him sorry didnt realise you said that thought you meant we just signed. ye walker and naughton are good back ups for right back as we are playing in europe (well hopefully longer than just the qualifying stages) i think someone with at least some more prem experience would be a better replacement that walker

Could not agree more. Where would he play if he was to come? I can only think he would sit on the bench and be a replacement if we are to qualify into group stages. When we already have to midfielders in hudd n wilson like you said that are not that much worse than parker? Its a waste.
Looks like Djalo is set to land from Sporting who i am more than happy with :)

The draw is Friday 12:00 Central European Time. Anyone know what time that is Melbourne time?
