If we play like that against most sides, we'll win. Hart pulled off a stunning performance. Gomes would have been proud.

Really happy with the midfield and defence. Lennon just needs to take on the fullback a bit more like he did early 09/10. I'm a bit concerned that King played. Does that mean he won't play the CL qualifier midweek?

Agree about Bale. We have a very special player on our hands. But the kid let me down with that pissweak right footed effort towards the end.

Really tough run coming up: Young Boys (away), Stoke (away), Young Boys.

i believe it is live on SBS this Wednesday morning at 4:30
brilliant!:thumbsu:

also on espn at 4.45am (which is actually the same as the sbs). but id much rather watch it on sbs as i really hate watching the espn coverage. annoying commentators and no sound from the ground which means no atmosphere which sucks!

I think they purposely show crippled coverage as well for SD to make HD look better.

Apparently we've made an official offer for Remy. However after getting a bit far ahead of myself with rumours I've learn to take anything the 'gossip' columns on the interwebs say with a massive intake of salt.

king has remained in england as they dont want to risk him on the artificial turf.

Provisional squad: Gomes, Cudicini, Hutton, Bale, Kaboul, Naughton, Bassong, Dawson, Corluka, Assou-Ekotto, Walker, Huddlestone, Rose, Lennon, Palacios, Modric, Kranjcar, Pavlyuchenko, Keane, Crouch, Dos Santos, Defoe.

i could probably see the squad being unchanged, but then again there could be the likes of hutton, naughton, walker, rose and dos santos playing a pretty big part. depends on how much respect we give young boys. i think we would put our 1st XI out for the first leg anyway to hopefully wrap the tie up tonight.

Nice gentle run-out for the lads tonight. Thought we controlled the game well and was never in any danger throughout the 90 minutes.

Reality check in order.....

Oh dear, well that was a bit of a let off. Looks like our squad may not be quite as deep as some may of thought. That was shambolic at times tonight. I think Harry might of tinkered too much but at least he got some big questions answered:

1) What the **** has happned to Palicious?
2) Tom Huddlestone is stepping up and cannot be dropped
3) Dawson is shit without king
4) Esso-Akouto is too unpredictale game to game
5) Bassong is not at the level required
6) Pavlychenko is an enigma.
7) Corulka is a ****.
8) Defoe has gone right off the boil

So least Harry found out these things now while he can still rectify.

Tonight was a trip back to the bad old days (which we all know will never completely dissapear).

The plastic pitch did not help, but Harry cannot paper over the cracks on this one. It was too big-a-game to simply put it down to an off-day. And I still remember pompey at Wembley. Get your chequebook out Harry!

On a positive note, we're still in this..

Very Very Very lucky to escape with that scoreline. I missed my alarm, but saw some extended highlights. Bassong looked lost and we still need a quality foward. Harry played the whole match with a 4-4-2?

At the end of the day its about as good of a result as a 0-0 draw would be. In both results we'd need to win the home leg.

We MUST sign and out-and-out gun striker who is far above the 4 we have who are all decent, but wont get the job done in Europe on a consistent basis. I would not care if the whole transfer budget went on just that 1 signing. At the back I'd probably feel safer with Corluka at CB than Bassong who looked more than a bit shaky, which seems to rub off on Dawson

English Warrior, I disagree with 3) and 7). Daws held the team together last season when everyone was getting injured. You are being harsh on Corluka. Everything else is spot on.

Palacios is shit. I would describe him as a cross between Jenarse and Zokora. Absolute liability. When he's not giving away penalties he's playing perfect through balls to the opposition. SELL.NOW.

Pav lowered his colours with the constant diving. We are not Arsenal or Chelsea ffs. We don't need to cheat to win.

I'm happy to cop a loss to Stoke. Just make sure King and Modric are fit for the second leg.

We can thank Tommy Hudd for keeping us in the Champions League (for another week).

Nah he changed when we went 3-0 down and we played with 5 in the middle for some of it.

Reports are that Gallas is as good as done - medical today.

I think we will bring in another midfielder and a striker.

Midfielder - Hleb, Diarra, I think it maybe someone that is regarded as excessive at a Barca/Real.

Striker - who knows. I don't think Keano will be with us. The worse case scenario is that Gud will come back on loan & I think Harrys knows he has this in his back pocket.

It appears that any decent signing(s) will depend on qualification for the group stage.

Suarez wont happen, Fabiano is 50/50, it could be someone like Huntelaar have also read that if we do qualify that Capel could be on his way. After that whole Ramos saga Im amazed Sevilla even answer the phone when Levy calls.

Apparently Capel was offered to us.

Fabiano is in the same boat and would be cup tied. I'm beginning to think we won't sign a good striker.

Quick Q if Sevilla and Ajax don't get through to the group stages are they still cup tied?

Good Question Borgsta - I have been reading that a lot of fans believe that the Qualifying Rounds do not count towards 'cup tie', & that this was changed in March. That said people are then throwing in if they win then they are cup tied........... not sure how the result would make you cup tied.
Either the qualifiers count or not, the result shouldn't have anything to do with it.

While on Fabiano:

Meanwhile, Fabiano, 29, who has one year left on his contract at Sevilla, said: “Tottenham are the sort of club I want to be at.

“I feel that I could fire them to the finish above Arsenal I know the club and fans so desperately want.

“My next contract will be my last one, or at least my last big one, and I have to take that into account. My goal record in La Liga speaks for itself.

“I believe myself to be one of the top strikers in the world and you just need to look at the deals players like David Villa, Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba are on.

“I truly believe in the next two seasons Spurs can win the Premier League or European Cup. I’d love to be a part of it – I just need to know that they value me as one of the world’s top strikers

May yet happen. He is the one Harry has freely admitted he wanted all along.
Although 'the deals' the others are on......... he will want too much. We just don't break our wage structure.

Lets hope it happens & the answer on the Cup Tie question falls our way.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/24032010/58/champions-league-uefa-relax-rules-cup-tied-players.html

The executive committee has agreed that a player who appears for a club in any of the preliminary rounds of the Champions League or Europa League can play for another team in the competition proper, so long as his original team is eliminated in the preliminary competition.
hmm, interesting. so we are hoping that ajax and sevilla dont progress here.

right now i not caring about which 'world class' striker we sign... WE JUST NEED ONE! also the gallas transfer im abit iffy about, hopefully it pays off.

thoughts on the stoke game? it will be a tough one and im not sure on whether we will be looking to redeem ourselves after tuesday night or focusing to much on this weeks CL game. i think we will still win 2-0 though.

I'm not hating the Gallas move, some solid backup and a good exerpienced head.

We are reluctant to break our wage structure but expect to sign a top striker? Would seem a difficult thing to do?

Fabiano seems an arrogant wanker, but we might have to get him.
